Review of the Domestic and General, Warranty:

Great Product and Service

5
I took insurance out with Domestic and General when I bought a treadmill from Argos during Covid. This year the touch screen stopped working altogether contacted them. They sent out a new screen and arranged for an engineer to fit it. When he came he identified another problem with the wiring that meant that the new screen broke whilst he was fitting it. He ordered another screen and relevant parts and came back a couple of weeks later to fit them. It was as good as new. Great product and service Reviewed on: 23rd August 2024

Company lies and avoids their responsibilities

10 years of premiums because I care for an incontinent vulnerable person and can't afford to not have a washing machine. They have left me without a replacement for 4 weeks. I've begged in tears but they just fob you off and lie. Even yesterday when they finally agreed to replace they said that would send the link but haven't and now I have to wait till Monday. They are just laughing at us taking our money and treating us like idiots. Don't let them do to you what they've done to me Reviewed on: 7th October 2023

Conned

Where to start? 5 year Worcester combi boiler guarantee was expiring in March so phoned Domestic and General to set up an extended warranty in January to allow plenty of time. Was told I was too early and to phone in February. Phoned in February and was told there would be a cooling off period where I would be uninsured as I was late phoning and should have phoned in January! Enquired when taking out the policy if it would be Worcester that comes out to the house. I was told yes it would be (we had an old Baxi policy before and it was always Baxi). All fine until I had a call from a "Hiflow Property Services" wanting to come and service my boiler. Never heard of them. I queried this with D and G and was then finally told the truth that it wouldn't be Worcester coming out at all..they sub contract. Not happy I complained stating I was mis sold a policy. I got a "kangaroo court" reply in total denial, not answering any points I had raised and the old chestnut of "try the Ombudsman". I requested to leave and they swayed me at the last minute by saying they do offer a policy with Worcester after all and they could I could start a new one with them through D and G. All well I thought until yesterday when I received a call about my long overdue annual service..from Hiflo Property Services again! It's enough to make you tear your hair out! Back on the phone to D and G and got nowhere. Stated to take it up with Worcester and they put me through to them. Worcester then tell me to take it up with D and G! Worcester were actually quite honest and told me I had been conned. I had basically been resold the same D and G policy. The contract is not directly with Worcester at all. Worcester say they can offer me a direct policy but with a 30 WORKING day cooling off period meaning my boiler would be uninsured for around 2 months. And Worcester sub contract annual services too. What a mess. Absolutely sick of the whole thing. Have applied to the local firm who installed my boiler for an extended warranty now. Can't wait to get on the phone and tell all these patter merchants at Domestic and General what to do with their shambolic service. Reviewed on: 23rd August 2023

Affordable

Affordable insurance and you get discounted rates if you have more than one insurance. Also it's very easy to speak to them or book repairs Reviewed on: 23rd August 2023

Depends on advisor

Domestic and general have been quite a difficult company to review. If you manage to speak to an experienced helpful advisor the system works well and customer service is good. If, however you don’t speak to an experienced advisor customer service/administration is really quite bad. Reviewed on: 27th July 2023

Breach of Consumer Duty

1
I purchased a policy from Domestic in general due to the build quality of a Hoover freezer that I bought. The experience has been appalling, and now they are in breach of the insurance terms. The entire experience has been sub par. Domestic and General are clearly in breach of consumer duty and are not fit to offer Insurance in the UK market. I have spent at least 4 hours on calls to get new drawer fronts. So far the issues have been as follows; - I got sent 6x drawer backs when i ordered drawer fronts - I then complained - 1.5 hours on the phone - I got sent 3 draw fronts - wrong size - only 3 in stock, 3 on back order - I then complained - 1 hour on the phone - I had an engineer visit (drove from 1 hour away), to open the door of the freezer and say "yep you need 6 drawer fronts" - he ordered them - A delivery arrived with 6x drawer fronts, all the small size. We specifically have said for all interactions on this matter it was middle drawers and fronts only. Not only is this a shambles. The environmental impact of this is catastrophic. If this is going on across all customer interactions the impact due to excess plastic goods and CO2 driving people around the UK is disgraceful. The CEO of Domestic and General should be made aware that this is a breach of consumer duty as I am now been told that as I cancelled my policy after the first call, after confirming with the colleague that was ok. To now be told Domestic and general cannot help me. Ref. for this issue is DG-2106640-2023 Reviewed on: 11th July 2023
