Review of the Halifax, Car insurance:

Halifax Car Insurance - extra charge as they held wrong information

1
My car insurance was up for re-newal and the new quote was 50% increase on previous year. So I called them to ask how much it would be if I made a one off payment (I usually pay monthly) before the Customer Rep. would quote a figure she wanted to check the policy details, so I obliged- firstly their records had my and the named driver, driving license dates as the year 2000, which I corrected. Next as I have retired they had to change my occupation - so to these policy changes they expected me to pay £13.50 to the expiry date of the policy. When I asked why they could not state what exactly the additional charge was for. After a log and heated conversation in the Customer Rep hung up the phone. Aster a cooling off period I called back as I did not want them to cancel my policy - regarding the incorrect driving license date, apparently when using comparison sites the option of 25+ years is read by insurance companies as the year 2000?.?? Also retiring from work (I was a par-time minibus driver) increases your insurance risk. In the end I paid the extra charge but will not be renewing with Halifax and will never use them again - I have taken out car insurance with another company so Halifax for the extra £13 you have lost my business and £316 - the worst customer service I have ever come across. Dismal and Confusing System

1
Had an accident other person admitted liability and also had witness all person on phone seemed to want to do was for me to make as many claims as possible, very confusing system as having to deal with so many different companies being told claim is on hold due to missing information from my insurers, so still awaiting a call to say when my car will be repaired Reviewed on: 17th July 2023

Poor service and response on no blame claim

1
Our car had a damage and claim was raised 4 days ago and since then we have been transferred from company to company. No body rang back and on our enquiry we are given numbers who pass us to another number with no results. On questioning Halifax insurance is not taking any responsibility. Reviewed on: 7th July 2023

Conned

I purchased a new car on 26th May. I was insured with Halifax with my old car. I thought it would be a simple process to upgrade the insurance to my new car. I phoned them on the 25th for a new quote which turned out to be fair. Only £22 more than other comparison sites. They saved the quote for me for the following day. When I called them on the 26th the price had risen by £200. I queried this and was told that was the price that was saved from the day before. I reluctantly took the insurance as I work away as a driver and wasn’t in a position to search and pay for an alternative. I explained that I would cancel the policy at the earliest opportunity which I have done today 30th. For this pleasure I will be charged £58. Buyers beware. Reviewed on: 30th May 2023

please find another car insurance

my god where do I start, I Had a car accident in December, and now you do not deal directly with Halifax but a second party, and if you are like me even a third-party insurance company, The third party insurance company were all over me because they thought there might be a claim against the other party in the accident, There questions to me have you got any neck injuries, My reply was no, they asked what about if you tilt your head back, again I said no, what about if you put your hands in the air and wave them about, yeh seriously, Now in my case neither of us admitted we were at fault, So in realty classed as an accident 50/50 the 3rd party insurance company that Halifax had appointed to me decided it was no interest to them {they could not make big monies}They told me it would be referred back to my main insurance company this was March 2023 {Accident Dec 22} Ok now in May 23 my car was written off in Dec 22, Tried today to see if there was an update 4of the 5 2023 halifax said you have to get in touch with party first dealing with your claim , they inturn said no not us put me in touch with another call centre could not realy understand them but they could me I think, they put me in contact with another call centre where I had the option of them calling me back chose that option and yes called me back , Went through all what I have just said and put the phone down on me, The moral of the story just because you trust a brand does not mean they are good at diversing into other areas Reviewed on: 4th May 2023
