Long winded and time consuming.

It took 3 months to arrange a RIO for £50k on s house that we own valued at £250k. It took 30 minutes to arrange a £40k loan to purchase a car valued at £60k with a £20k deposit. It would have been quicker and as it turns out, cheaper, to arrange a £50k personal loan from my bank. Reviewed on: 7th August 2026

We aim to provide a mortgage offer within 14 days; however, in this case additional clarification was required because the property was not registered at the Land Registry in your name, clarifying the reason for this did delay the issuing of the mortgage offer. The remaining part of the process was then handled by your solicitors. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. Response date: 7th August 2026

A practical and supportive lender

My mortgage application was not the most straightforward, as it involved a higher loan amount, a higher loan-to-value position and a more detailed source-of-funds review. Loughborough Building Society dealt with the case in a sensible and pragmatic way. Rather than taking a rigid, tick-box approach, they reviewed the information properly, asked clear questions where further evidence was needed, and ultimately found a way to support the application. I was particularly impressed that they were prepared to consider the higher lending amount and assess the overall case properly, rather than simply declining because it was not a standard application. The underwriting process was detailed, but the requests were clear and the lender came back quickly compared with many others. Overall, I found them to be fair, thorough and practical, especially for a more complex mortgage case. I would recommend Loughborough Building Society to applicants who may need a lender willing to look at the full picture rather than relying only on a basic automated assessment.
