If you’re eligible for an overdraft, the first £50 is interest free. The FlexDirect account has to be managed online or over the phone, not at the branch.

Bad customer service

I went on the chat, and they couldn’t help me they said I had to phone in, after waiting 20 mins I got though and explained my issue they said they couldn’t help so I had to wait another 30 mins for the next department who then said they couldn’t help and I have to be transferred to the team I was speaking to at the start, I told him not to transfer me so he checked with his boss and said they couldn’t help with my arranged overdraft interest as my reasoning wasn’t excepted. Opened account over five years ago and never had a problem. Online banking is very secure with a four stage process with a card reader, not just an otp to your phone, and website is simple to use and well laid out. Statements are clear and payments are easy to make. Reviewed on: 25th January 2026

Great rates, app, communication and rewards

I’ve been a customer of Nationwide banking and mortgages for many years. Their app is brilliant. It makes banking and budgeting easy to manage. Their communications are proactive and helpful. I used the switch service to move to Nationwide and I was kept up to date at every stage. The process was seamless, I got to choose my switch over date and all my direct debits followed and were paid with no gaps. Very easy to set everything up and the app is great. Reviewed on: 23rd January 2026
