Both moved existing mortgage and repaid an one part.

We recently moved home so ported one of our mortgage products and paid off another. NBS combine friendly, local F2F access (the Winchester staff know us personally) with named SME contact via the telephone at HQ. We have built a direct relationship with Lisa Wedge over the years but recognise her role has changed but the level of service has not declines as a result. The only inhibitor with the service is that as non-clearing institution transactions can take longer so some people may miss the technology. However, we achieve the correct balance with the personal touch and systems based transactions. Reviewed on: 10th January 2022

The team were very helpful and explained everything in simple terms

Wonderful Service - Great Mortgage Options!

In most cases people write reviews if the service has not met their standards or just general issues. We often forget to comment on the things Companies are doing right. I wanted to take a small amount of my time to write a positive review, both about your Company and one of your employees. My Mortgage was coming up for review and I was contacted by Newbury Building Society, specifically the Mortgage Adviser - Rose Hallett. Rose provided fantastic service, listening and understating my needs and spending time going through all my options. I had the Mortgage offer through only a few days later, with an additional email from Rose explaining everything we went through on our call. I don't normally expect these types of processes to be so efficient and easy as I experienced here. I would highly recommend Newbury Building Society to anyone looking for a Mortgage. Good product, service left much to be desired

I was effectively a guarantor for a new mortgage for my son and daughter in law buying a new house. Your product was good and you did reasonably well but I have 2 issues: 1. You repeatedly asked for more details, even when you already had the information. I have bought and sold a number of houses but have never been forced to supply anywhere near the amount and detail of information that you required. 2. You insisted that we had to use a lawyer from your panel of lawyers, despite our preference for someone we knew well and preferred. The lawyer you required was awful. It was a frustrating and very difficult exercise with people whose competence I question and on some occasions did not even have an adequate command of the English language. I had one particularly distressing video meeting, required by you, where you insisted that we should pay for a separate, independent consultation at a cost of £360. This was late, gave us no advice and was purely concerned with getting our signature to confirm that we had taken this 'advice'. It was only of use to you, not us. This was one of the occasions where we concluded that the lawyer did not understand us and we were certainly unable to understand him. This was simply nowhere near the competence expected. Brilliant Mortgage provider

The Newbury building society was one of only 2 providers that understood my situation (working as a contractor for less than a year) and gave me a great mortgage that allowed overpayments and a great rate. A few years later I went looking for better rates and once again not only the NBS renewed my contract without any fuss, they also did it with an unbeatable rate. All our interactions with the staff, either face to face, by letter or by phone were brilliant. It is such a great team of people, I could not be happier. Reviewed on: 27th December 2021

Remortgaging from First Direct Mortgages

A very professional service throughout, with a rapid turnaround of our application, property valuation and confirmation of the 'in principle' offer. In particular, dealt well with repeated errors and misleading information provided by First Direct to provide an accurate mortgage redemption value to Newbury BS. Reviewed on: 24th December 2021
