Not interested in lockdown customers

Admiral insurance just gave my wife (and all their customers) a £25 refund due to their claims being lower than usual in lockdown. When I asked RAC to cancel my insurance I was charged £40. I was told this was completely unavoidable. I know where I will be going next time. Reviewed on: 1st May 2020

Insurance issue

Disgusted at the way my mother has been treated with her RAC car insurance. Took out a few months ago then had a letter so say there was a problem with her policy and need to ring to sort it. Rang RAC car insurance to be told dont worry theres nothing on the system and no problem with the insurance. She was told to "ignore the letters" then has a letter to say her insurance will be cancelled in the next couple of days. Again, another phone call which they say she put in a claim in 2016 but they couldn't tell her what it was for so said she will have to ring her insurance for the year 2016 bearing in mind shes had no problem in the years after 2016. Rang her old insurance which they have no record of a claim because it never happened. They have said they will over ride the insurance cancellation but will have to pay £300 to keep the policy which will be refunded if she can prove there was no claim. So meanwhile I am sorting the paper work out from her old insurance to send to RAC to prove this! Shocking customer service and really don't care about the customer. Reviewed on: 21st April 2020

The worst car insurance ever!

The worst car insurance ever! Don't use them. They will cancel your insurance suddenly in a rude way no matter whether it's your fault, and deduct hundreds pounds cancellation fee! The black box is a nightmare, don't go with it, it's faulty no matter how good your drive is you never get good score! Avoid them and use others! Reviewed on: 7th March 2020

Disaster!!!

Please avoid this company, courtesy car was included in the rac breakdown and car insurance policies. When our car breakdown I called them to book mechanic, we was waiting all day, without updates, you need to call them to check. They transfer the calls to someone else, which wasn’t helpful. Booked courtesy car, and the booking was confirmed twice. Went to pick up the courtesy car, and and I was told the booking wasn’t confirmed in their system. I call rac to check what is going on, they was telling me the booking was confirmed, and after few phone calls with different people, courtesy car wasn’t provided. Very bad experience with this company, and they charge you £110 p/m for that and can not help at all when you need them! Reviewed on: 15th October 2019

Appalling service - dishonest and disinterested. Avoid.

My daughter took out a car insurance policy with RAC. A couple of weeks after setting this up they contacted her to say that it was cancelled with immediate effect because of an undeclared and unresolved claim against her. In fact this was entirely incorrect and was due to an error by her previous insurer (Admiral) who had said they would remove it from their records and then failed to do so. She contacted Admiral who contacted the RAC to confirm this fact. She the asked RAC to restart her policy as this had clearly been an error. They said they could not restart a cancelled policy but would have to quote on a new one - which they did for a cost 3 or 4 times more expensive than the one just cancelled. When she asked why they said it was because she had a cancelled policy - which she did: cancelled by themselves because of provenly incorrect data sent by another insurer! The computer said no and that was that. They agreed to refund her money but did so minus £250 which they said they could charge because of this - totally unnecessary- cancellation. When she complained a few days later the person she spoke to agreed that in the circumstances they would refund the amount. This never materialised and when she enquired was told that this person should not, in fact, have authorised it and it had been cancelled. After issuing a further complaint she was told they would look at it again and get back to her in 6-8 weeks - which, of course, they have not done. I wrote to them on her behalf as well but have not even had the courtesy of a reply. Basically, they have misappropriated £250 of her money due to an error in the information sent by her previous insurer which that insurer very promptly confirmed. Complete farce of a back office

Totally screwed up dealing with a simple change of car details with a short gap in between selling the old car and taking delivery of the new. This was corrected by a very competent team leader and agent in Peterborough in late March (a genuine ‘well done’ to them as they were superb). But the Basingstoke back office finance department have been chasing me daily 24 and 25 April for a non-existent debt and telling me the policy has lapsed ... I have twice responded to them with a call following their urgent text to me, and twice the agent has been incapable of talking sense, Twice I have asked them to log a formal complaint and have a manager call me back urgently ... and twice now, NOTHING has happened. No call, nobody to take responsibility and no apology for the massive distress these texts, calls and apparent policy cancellation have caused me. What is wrong with these people ?? Avoid at all costs - arrogant beyond belief

Dreadful service, arrogant advisors and unhelpful. You may trust the RAC name but don't under any circumstances think it applies to their insurance policies. They have no intention of helping you if you claim - they simply dump you on their shoddy insurance underwriters (who are a disgrace) and absolve themselves of all responsibility when you need them most. Ridiculous arrogance, Cash cow public, AVOID at all cost's

Bottom line 3 years with them and quoted £860 for 1.6 diesel, 43 year old with 6 years no claims, i was quoted £190-£280 MAX by 5 other insurers with better policies ! i saved over £500 with one free call RAC was trusted brand, not now, as insurance broker they are disgusting, £30 charge for every phone call ever made, they dont insure you, they punt you out and charge another £100 on top, plus the £30s for any call, one internet search will save you 100s, if you like yourself dont renew your policy, i lapsed last year and was going to be £200+ to cancel policy, on reflection i would NEVER put another £ in there hands, they dont make any effort to get you a competitive Quote, they are cynical and unwilling to help at any level, take a day and save yourself the hardship of a Poor service provider Reviewed on: 26th February 2019

Shocking service

What a terrible company - I have had a company car for years and no claims at all! Due to car allowance I have leased a car. Despite Lex providing details of my No claims; RAC would not accept!!!!! They claim it’s not valid so I asked to cancel and they stated it would take effect at midnight that day. Instead they cancelled it at 15:30 putting me and my vehicle at severe risk.
