Horrendous customer experience

I chose to insure my car through rac they weren't the cheapest but having such a good repuatation I decided to go with them, they asked me for proof of my 2 years no claims discount via email (no phone calls or letters at all) so I could only provide 1 year after the insurer (Churchill who were very helpful and I shouldn't of left) gave me my proof no problem the company before however I couldn't get in touch with to prove the other year. So I accepted that my premium would probably go up with rac as I couldn't prove the other year I found this totally reasonable. Rac however cancelled my policy told me they were no longer able to insure me, refused to give me my £81 deposit back due to the fact they had already insured me for a month (although my insurance was only £60 a month) but I decided to accept that. What I was not willing to accept is they wanted £122 for 'services' and a £55 cancellation fee even though it was them who decided they no longer wanted to insure me. I am a very reasonable person with that I asked if they could reinstate my policy with a higher premium to allow for the no proof of no claims again they said no, the only option to them was for my to pay my 'fees' then get a brand new policy from them in which I would've had to pay my deposit again in full. Why they think anyone would do this is beyond me as it means I would've of paid them over £200 in the space of a month for basically nothing! Technicalities aside they have been awful, so unhelpful they manager I spoke to did nothing but keep repeating himself saying 'it's not our fault' that to them is obviously a reasonable way of dealing with their customers, without which they would have no business. I would never give rac another penny of my money this was such a minor issue that we could of resolved between us but unfortunately I am now currently in the process of speaking to trading standards and claiming money back for my lengthy phone call where I achieved nothing. Myself and my whole family have cancelled our breakdown cover with them and I am working with my bank to ensure these obscene charges cannot be taken. I myself work for a huge company (a very well known one) and if we ran our business this way I would expect to not have one left. Customer service goes a very long way and greed is unfortunately going to cost this company. If they can afford to lose customers this way good luck to them! Reviewed on: 20th March 2017

Unreasonably increasing the premium

Unreasonably high premium quoted for our replacement vehicle. Following the total loss of our car in the accident (non fault claim) , I purchased a new vehicle and requested an updated insurance quote from RAC. The premium quoted was significantly higher than similar policies offered by other insurance platforms. This increase appears unjustified despite our request for an explanation, and I would appreciate a detailed reasoning for this pricing discrepancy. I have repeatedly raised this matter over the past months, but no resolution has been provided. Instead, I have been referred from one department to another without any department offering a precise or satisfactory response. Avoid like the plague this is DIY insurance! My car was hit by a buss, the driver left contact info Arriva accepted responsibility, I have that in writing. RAC only log claim then you have to deal with underwriter yourself. The underwiter then required me to write to Arriva myself to get my excess back. Now I have an email from the underwriters solicitor asking for all the details of the claim again because Arriva have not coughed up. This is now 6 months later and my insurance is top for renewal and I have been warned that I will not be able to get insurance elsewhere and my premium will be higher because the case is closed. I HAVE A LETTER FROM ARIVA ACCEPTING RESPOSIBILITY AND I GOT THAT 6 MONTHS AGO! Reviewed on: 12th December 2024

Beware of hidden Car Insurance cancellation fees

I purchased a car insurance policy with RAC that hadn’t even started, yet they charged me a £45 cancellation fee and an outrageous £45 Insurer Service Fee (ISF). These fees were buried in the T&Cs and feel completely unjustified. The lack of flexibility and transparency is shameful. I expected much better service from such a well-known company. When I questioned these charges, their customer service agent, Alicia, was unhelpful and dismissive. A truly disappointing experience. I certainly wouldn’t recommend RAC to anyone seeking fair and reasonable car insurance. Reviewed on: 10th December 2024

The absolute worst insurance company I've ever been...

The absolute worst insurance company I've ever been with. I had to fight for a copy of my policy and was questioned why I wanted it. Online chat 'Anthony' cut off my conversation when i was trying to get to the bottom of the extra charges. They have charged me twice the amount I should have been charged and not issued a refund they were supposed to. I've contacted them about 20 times trying to sort this. I give up. Waste of space! Renewal increased by £400 for no reaso

My renewal came in after 2 years with RAC. They increased by £400 to £1150. I have not claimed or contacted them in the year. I have 9 years NCB and increased for no reason. Many will auto review and get completely ripped off. Shameful and criminal. I shopped around and got insured with less excess for £550. When will insurance companies be held to account. Don't use RAC online insurance

I helped a neighbour to purchase RAC online insurance. The purchase went fine but a day later they requested documents to be sent which we scanned and sent but three days later they cancelled stating that they had not received the documents despite email was sent to the same email requesting it. In the chat they said they never read their emails!. Please don't use this insurance Reviewed on: 7th September 2024

AVOID THIS INSURER

Tried to claim for windscreen damage after flying debris put deep scratch in line of vision. Told that this was not covered as it was WEAR AND TEAR ! They were however very happy to repair privately for £440. Tried to complain but just got sent round in circles. Very poor service. Reviewed on: 5th September 2024
