Review of the RAC, Car insurance:

Complete waste of money and massive increased stress

So my tyre burst on Sunday evening. Called RAC at 18:50. Assistant found my location, took details. Told me it would be at least an hour and a half. Text message cane through saying 180 minutes. It was pouring with rain so I pulled car well off road and sat in the passenger seat. At 21:55, text came through saying “ We're sending one of our drivers to rescue you. We'll be in touch shortly with the details.”. Then another text at 11pm “ Sorry if you're still waiting. It's very busy but one of our drivers will be with you as soon as possible.” That was the last text until Wednesday afternoon “ Just to confirm, we're now working to get a local RAC patrol to you”. A friend collected me and to me home before midnight. I was freezing and very scared sitting by myself on the side of the road. On calling and updating RAC, the person said they MAY be able to send someone earliest 1:30 Monday morning. I was given a ref number. After many calls holding for more than 30 minutes a time. I had a voicemail come through sometime during early hours of the morning say she hoped I was somewhere warm, dry and safe. I finally got hold of a gentleman at RAC on the Monday morning. He said they were still working on getting me rescued. I was really upset on the phone and he did apologise. In the meantime, I called a tyre man who came out on Monday and changed the tyre. It took 10 min and has cost my money that I really did not have. I am extremely grateful to R&R Tyres for their help. Late yesterday I had a call from the RAC breakdown man who informed me he was on his way to my location to rescue me! There will be a massive complaint going in to RAC and Hastings Direct. Unacceptable amount of time to receive money for written off vehicle

Had my car written off in February after it was hit by a driver while parked outside my house. Other drivers insurance have admitted liability. Unacceptable amount of time of 11 weeks on & still waiting for the money owed for my written off vehicle. Spent hours on the phone on hold & being pushed from pillar to post trying to find out what is going on. Cannot get to actually speak to anyone from RAC but instead a company they use called IMS who keep telling me the same thing continuously, that they are chasing the money. Seriously? 11 weeks to chase the money?! I will now be forced to waste yet more time by having to get this settled via the financial ombudsman. I would not recommend using RAC car insurance & would steer clear at all costs, they are not there to help you when you need them to after taking your hard earned money & you will be left with nothing but stress.. £160 to cancel an unneeded auto renewing RAC policy.

I was a couple of days late cancelling a long-held auto-renewing vehicle insurance policy with the RAC. The vehicle had been sold. The cancellation fee was £160! I was charged almost £200 for 18 days of cover, which I did not need. So think again if you're considering buying a RAC autorenewing insurance policy. Reviewed on: 22nd April 2023

Fined by Rac Insurance

I have held motor insurance with Rac for nearly 2 years. I missed a direct debit payment which was my fault, but I didn't know I'd missed a payment neither my bank or Rac told me. 10 days later I received an email saying my insurance was going to be cancelled in 2 weeks. Again no reason given. I logged into my account and while battling through adverts to find the reason why, I couldn't find out. I rand the contact number and got through after 38 minutes. They told me why. I immediately paid. And they fined me £25 for the honour. This is my last year with rac for any of their products Reviewed on: 8th April 2023

THE R.A.C THEY ARE NOT A GOOD INSURANCE CO. THEY WERE BUT NOT ANY MORE.as a break down service that also have gone down hill the min for a break down is 3 hours and the insurance is worse they take your money you have a problem you get the repair done they then tell youthey will not pay the claim i am 75 and barely walk and they do not care as long as they get themoney every month. please read this review and i urge you do not take out rac. ins i have been an rac member for 43 years now i am looking to change to another breakdown company they do not want loyal customers if they did they would look after me in all aspect of insurance. never buy insurance

Would never buy or recommend RAC insurance for you or your friends. Initially, they provide information misleading you to buy the cover. Later, they will add all charges without contacting the customer and even the cancellation is done by the company. Adding to that, they will even give you cancellation charges. Cheap Insurance but impossible to claim

Attempted to claim for a minor bump, after 5 days and cumulative of several hours in a call queue for their "hotline" had to give up. A phone number that is the only way to claim should be staffed reasonably enough that a claim can be made in a reasonable time period. Reviewed on: 17th March 2023

Being ignored

Following difficulty speaking to RAC claims department I have tried to make a complaint. Despite FIVE attempts have had no response. Anyone at the RAC ever heard of customer service?? Reviewed on: 14th March 2023

WORST INS CO OUT THERE

Do NOT use RAC - they are not a direct supplier so you will be charged for EVERYTHING. Change of bank account - £20 admin fee - missed DD because they messed up the change of bank account - £20 Fee - cancelling insurance because they are rubbish - £55 (yes, FIFTY FIVE) fee.
