Saga's car insurance is praised for competitive pricing, helpful staff, and easy renewals, especially with their fixed-rate deals. Travel and health insurance get credit for good coverage and caring service when claims are needed. However, home insurance and some claims experiences often frustrate with poor communication, big price hikes, and slow or unhelpful responses.

They sell their insurance. and it requires the client to provide proof of an accident-free ride bonus. not at the beginning of the insurance period, but from the moment of sale. If you buy in advance, it is impossible for you to do this. Avoid this company, as they are. They make a refund. And it holds 50 pounds. They're just robbers. Read more Read less

Booked a river cruise with Saga and took their included travel insurance. About two weeks before we were due to go I was taken to A&E and found to have heart failure. We had to cancel our trip and once I had a letter from my doctor confirming I was unable to travel Saga paid the claim. No fuss, no quibble. Wonderful company Read more Read less

I took out a Saga travel insurance policy expecting the premium service and peace of mind they promise to older travellers. Unfortunately, my experience has been highly disappointing. The Issue: My policy was an annual policy covering worldwide travel. I had informed them of a diagnosis of a benign tumour that didn’t require surgery to keep me alive, but I elected to have to allow me to continue cycling for leisure. The surgery was done in January and I was given the results confirming the diagnosis in April. In May I was diagnosed with a chest infection but I planned to fly to Italy on holiday so spoke to my GP who said I was fit to fly as my symptoms were mild with no fever. I rang Saga to inform them of this and they said my policy was being cancelled with immediate effect. When I asked them for the reason behind their decision I was told it was due to having two conditions within the last 12 months, which breached their criteria for cover. The Service: When I phoned them to renew my policy last December I told them about my investigations of a “lump” which was probably just a benign cyst and I was phoned back by the policy underwriters who interviewed me for 30 minutes about this and then informed they would not cover me for any travel until my diagnosis was confirmed and all treatment had been completed. Conclusion: I chose Saga because they advertise themselves as specialists for over-50s, but when I actually needed the protection I paid for, they let me down. I would not recommend this policy to others and will not be using them or recommending them ever again. I was able to get travel insurance with another company a lot cheaper on-line without any of the hassle that Saga gave me. Read more Read less

SAGA as a company is not fit for purpose. Car insurance, i rang to cancel the automatic renewal (that i declined when taking out the policy)!! The assistant confirmed at the end of the call she had cancelled my current policy and confirmed my renewal. It's 2 days later and I am still fighting this incompetent company to reinstate my current policy. I did point out the fact that if i called to take a policy they would cover me immediately. Just proving that I am being lied to, repeatedly. DO NOT USE. Read more Read less

Pedantic claim procedure designed to wear you down!

I booked SAGA as I had some medical issues involving high BP and atrial Fib so the usual suspects (Bank) refused cover under standard terms so I was forced to pay circa £500 for annual cover! Some great friends and my wife and I booked a dream trip to Mexico, Belize and Panama but shortly after booking I was diagnosed with Cancer! Initially the holiday wasn't in jeopardy however when I was told I needed Chemotherapy that meant the trip was a no go! I appealed to the operators of our independent traveller trip and several were great and although terms were no cancellation they refunded but some were not so charitable. We booked several of the hotels through a single agent who provided a print out stating what was booked, how much was paid and what had been refunded. I had paid for all 4 of us at some of the hotels and our friends had done the same for others. I claimed for 25% of the amounts totalling just over £1000. Our Bank HSBC covered my wifes 25% and they wonderfully understood how awful life was being to us and paid out her £1000 within 15 minutes and didn't ask for any forms. Thank you HSBC Premier for being compassionate and super helpful. SAGA on the other hand asked for bank statements, proof of cancellation, etc etc although I had sent the travel companies docs, medical reports etc etc totalling 21 pages they always want more. The Panama hotel refused a refund and refused to send a cancellation so we had to no show but that is not acceptable to SAGA so I have asked to remove that element from the claim. I am at present having Chemo and SAGA being pedantic is the last thing I need. If they wont pay up then send me my original policy payment back! Useless springs to mind. Called Emergency as had a leak dripping from the bathroom down to the kitchen. Spoke to knowledgeable call handler who logged my issue with their approved Plumbing Services near me. I uploaded photos of the issues and then the Plumber had messaged me to notify he would be with me in under an hour. He duly arrived with the parts required and within 45 minutes the issue was resolved. First class service. Read more Read less

I booked my trip August 2025 and have been a loyal SAGA travel insurance customer, paying £497 for a travel policy specifically to cover my travel to India via Abu Dhabi. Following the FCDO update on 28th February 2026 advising against travel, Saga is now using a "War" exclusion to avoid paying a legitimate claim. I am being told I cannot travel safely, yet I am being refused a refund. Is this how Saga treats its 73 year old policyholders? Claim 833559. Read more Read less
