About this product

Saga provide home insurance policies that can cover buildings only, contents only or both combined.

Saga offers two levels of cover, Saga Plus and Saga Select. With Saga Plus, you can expect to pay the same price for 3 years if there are no changes, even after most types of claim. If you cancel during the year, you won't be charged a cancellation fee.

Saga home insurance reviews help you find out what it’s really like to be a customer. If you’ve used Saga before, you can also leave a review and share your experience.

Review of the Saga, Home insurance:

Woefully poor emergency claims experience

1
We are in the middle of an ongoing and still unresolved EMERGENCY PLUMBING CLAIM after four and a half weeks. The Claims team don’t understand about basic customer service, saying they’ll get back you and then nothing happens so we always have to phone them - our phone time to them is now about ten hours. They use an emergency plumber that you can’t contact over the weekends. You can’t ever speak to the same person twice even if you have their name, neither will they give you the Network Manager’s name or contact details nor put you through to anyone who can actually make a decision. It’s “not their protocol” apparently so you’re at the mercy of one of 80 telephone operators who aren’t allowed to make decisions and just sound bored as they repeat ad nauseam “there’s nothing I can do”. I actually doubt the Network Manager exists, because they should have contacted us yesterday and we’re still waiting. They also demonstrate poor competence - they arranged for a second plumber to contact us; heard nothing so we phoned them - turns out they don’t even do the type of work we need and had told Saga that but Saga didn’t bother to let us know. Our claim has been escalated to the invisible Network Manager so now no one in the Claims team can do anything apparently, not even to arrange for another (third or fourth by now?!) plumber - meanwhile we’ve been 4 and a half weeks without water! We have lodged our complaint and were supposed to have heard from the Complaints team on Monday - to date have heard nothing. I can’t find anything about their emergency KPIs, probably because they know they won’t meet them. Meanwhile the leak is getting worse, we are STILL awaiting a plumber (great emergency service!) and this claim is costing Saga more by the day due to their total incompetence. Premium price, poor service, especially for bereaved

Saga could not offer suitable cover for my late mother's house while was empty and awaiting sale. Given the age profiling of the company, I find this disappointing. Just when I needed assistance in looking after a loved one's estate, they let me down. The telephone contacts are lovely to talk to, but seem to act as a messenger between underwriters and the customer. Lots of being waiting for a response from another department. I can see that this is preferable to being transferred from one number to another, but it's rather disjointed. I'm guessing that Saga are a broker for several insurers. The reduced cover was advised mid-term, so I found cover elsewhere. I have had a renewal reminder several days after cancelling the policy, which means that I have to phone again to ensure that they are not going to try to take the premium....
