Review of the Sainsburys Bank, Cash Passport MasterCard:

Reloading technical problems lost £500

I went online to reload my card, went all the way through the process and then a message popped up to say that they had technical problems but that they would keep on trying. Three days later and still no funds, yet over £500 has been taken from my Bank account for prepaid card transaction. Neither party will return my money, nor load my Cash passport card, and I am abroad. I have spent three days sending emails, online chat, online forms, and telephone calls, without success. App doesn't work

Is not possible top up money via Sainsbury's cash passport app not in UK, not aboard. I can top-up money only via phone what takes long time. Reviewed on: 13th September 2022

Awful

Absolutely awful, system crashes, app doesn’t work with uk banks. We have been left stranded on holiday unable to access our money. 5 hours on the phone of our honeymoon wasted trying the phone helpline. Still stranded abroad with no money. The service is disgusting Reviewed on: 2nd August 2022

Do not get this card

I’ve been chasing money since March that was transferred. My bank confirmed it went to its correct destination but still in June it has disappeared into the Sainsburys system. Customer services is rubbish and now I need to contact ceo of Sainsburys. Ridiculous Reviewed on: 9th June 2022

If I could give no stars I would! 1 - To contact customer services this is a premium rate number unless it is from a landline. Line was very poor as over seas and Customers services first language was not English, very difficult to understand. 2 - My card was out of date - not used due to the pandemic and they wanted £50 loaded on card to renew 3 - Yes you can withdraw your money in sterling however the exchange rate is appalling. 4 - Never again - go else where. Nearly impossible to contact

I realise all phone lines are busy but despite phoning the emergency line given on my credit card the call took 33 minutes to get through. The website for the credit card is difficult to find out how to message etc. Eventually I got through and a transaction that I was unable to see online (despite being told I could see it when I could NOT) had indeed gone through. When I asked for a complaint to be made in regard to this ( having explained clearly that only the last 3 transactions are shown in recent transactions) they wanted me to stay on line for further time to make the complaint yet again formally, which was not possible as I had already spent best part of an hour. Sainsbury Multi Currency Card (Passport)

I use this card internationally and 4 times out of 5 times, I have issues loading the card via the mobile app. It often disconnects from the server during login....the error is "Connection Lost", also it can take some time to load the card, as there can be a few of tasks to perform for the sake of security (no other card I have requires these tasks!). This card is a bad idea for emergencies!!! Also another annoyance is minimum top online is £50 while using the mobile app is a round £10. There are plenty of other cards to choose from out there which have a more professional approach to their customers experience! Reviewed on: 30th January 2022

I've had my money taken from me

Pathetic. Like many others, disgusted with the non activity charges. It means that those without balances are being subsidised by those who leave a balance with Sainsburys. How unfair is that? They said they would speak to me and sort out but failed to do even the call or email. Closed account - never to return!! Reviewed on: 7th November 2021

Terrible. Couldnt use it in most places

Terrible. Stuck in airport. Wouldn’t work contactless most of the time. Offshore call centre. Not very helpful. I now have the pin so hoping that works. Wouldn’t recommend. Reviewed on: 5th November 2021

Inactivity monthly fees!

Despite the fact that most travel was restricted and most Sainsbury's Travel counter closed for an extended period of time during Covid19, they continued to charge us £2 per month for inactivity! Made a complaint but just replied with more elaborations of the small prints in the terms and conditions. Reviewed on: 25th August 2021

Attempted to reload cash passport card several times and FAILED miserably

Tried to reload cash passport card several times for imminent travel. Had not used card for a while but still valid. In the end contacted them by phone several times, and email, but it did not get resolved before I got on the plane. Absolute joke. Very stressful and wasted a lot of precious time. Staff absolutely useless and kept repeating same scripted response. Will just withdraw money from ATM and use my bank card and incur lots of charges. AVOID USING THIS CARD. No stars at all for rating and recommendation, but had to put lowest to publish. Reviewed on: 2nd August 2021
