About this product

The Santander Basic current account is for people who’ve been turned down for another current account, have a poor credit history, or are new to the UK for work or study.

The Basic current account has a contactless debit card, basic banking facilities, mobile banking as well as no fees for using Santander cash machines abroad.

My santender account is good enough to use.

I find my Santander account easy to manage and I couldn't think of a better account to use being at university. When I opened my student account I was given an overdraft with 0% interest which doesn't need to be paid back until I finish university. Moreover, whenever I'm in need of assistance I always come off the phone or away from the branch feeling as though I have gained all the help I need in order to solve my problems. Current account with no monthly fee

Switched from the 123 account when the interest rate went down significantly but the monthly fee didn't. The switch was very smooth and I kept the same account number. Reviewed on: 5th January 2022

Terrible bank.

They blocked my access to my account randomly after months of use. I can’t access my money. If I didn’t have another bank account elsewhere I’d be in trouble. I’ll never use Santander again. Reviewed on: 18th October 2021

13 years with the bank, rude, insultive, excuses for everything, money is not safe, anyone who youve ever had a direct debit with can just reset it up without your consent and empty your account.... and did!!! Reviewed on: 11th August 2021

Simple and helpful

The staff at Santander UK are all English speaker, very helpful, patient and actually follow on their action once they get off the phone with you. Been with them since 2005 and never had an issue. Their mobile app is also very user friendly and pretty responsive, transactions correct and show up straight away! Can't fault them. Reviewed on: 27th March 2021
