Review of the Scottish Building Society, Mortgages:

Free legals cost £1200!

SBS offered mortgages to older people so we were interested. We asked for less than 40% LTV. They asked for an exhausting amount of extra financial info, including about two other investment houses we own. Once started, SBS were surprised to learn that we lived in England despite having had that info for months. As a result they changed the free legals to a £250 contribution to our English legals, which were £650. Once in process they insisted on a further legal form which had to be administered by a lawyer, costing a further £600. Mortgage completed 5 months after initiation at a net legal cost of £1000. Remortgaging

I was recommended to SBS and was very pleased with the clear and straightforward responses and information received. The product information and application document was very clear which made the whole process very straightforward. The completion and setting up of DD etc went without a hitch. I would recommend SBS. A fairly positive experience

A lot of issues in satisfying the society in relation to my wife’s and my pensions. Certainly in relation to my pension.
