Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

When I was at my lowest with worry and anxiousness, I turned first to Citizens Advice who were very helpful and passed me over to Stepchange. From the very first phone call to them, I felt a lot better and they got me into a positive frame of mind. When they answered and assisted me through the process, it was like they lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. I could actually breath again. StepChange helped me in a crisis.

Supporting an adult child on the autism spectrum who ran up terrifying debts impacted on my own finances. I used my own credit cards and bank loans to clear their debts, then my mortgage shot up during the Liz Truss premiership. StepChange set up payments with my with creditors, and it is a huge weight off my mind. Reviewed on: 13th May 2026

Peace of mind

Initial debt was immediately reconfigured into a manageable payment plan. Contact with StepChange was efficient and easy, giving excellent advice and adjusting payment plans as required.
