Dare to hope,!

I have been very ill with cancer. During my treatments I took my eye off the ball as the saying goes. Was too ill to deal with post and many many calls from people demanding money. I was becoming paranoid about the phone,the postman. Well debts don’t go away I didn’t know where or who to turn to, my life was such a mess, I was even contemplating ending it all. A friend came here and said why don’t we ring Stepchange the debt charity. I had nothing to lose but from that very first call, they made me feel like we can sort this out together and took me through every single step. Every person I spoke with was efficient,nothing was too much trouble, kind and compassionate. Made me feel like perhaps I could live a life. Am not the only person this happens to. Quite a bit of paperwork which I found daunting but even if I was stuck on silly questions I always got a real person to speak with. I can’t praise them high enough Reviewed on: 27th August 2024

Amazing help

Stepchange have helped me turn from being worried I'll never get out of debt to giving me a date I will be debt free. I was spiralling out of control trying to jiggle things about and going without food because I just couldn't afford it. But now I can and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Being managing my debts on my own for a while...

Being managing my debts on my own for a while, loads of letters, of missed a payment loads of calls. I'm on a DMP with Stepchange and no drama now and reduced letters so we are saving the trees, man! Did everything online and it was effortlessly effective. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026

When I realised, that I couldn’t manage when my husband left, was a complete wake up call. I didn’t know where to begin. A friend recommended a DMP, I had know idea what one was. I was terrified of telling anyone my problems, as I was totally ashamed. I took the first step and contacted Stepchange, the person I spoke with was non judgemental, and helped me all the way. He came up with a plan I could afford, and I decided on areas that I could cut back on. I have nothing but praise for the staff, not once have they rushed me, or judged me. Struggling with my debt

Approached Step Change as I was struggling with my bills etc. I initially approached my creditors asking for help. They all advised to approach Step Change and it's been the best but if advise I've followed in the last 5 years. Everyone I've spoken to within the company have been very polite, helpful and friendly. They listened and then offered advise regarding my debts. They explained the options I had and then answered all my questions. Once I decided how I wanted to approach my debt they again clarified my options and made sure I had an understanding of everything. Any issues I've had during my plan they've been on hand to answer any further questions I had. Can't thank them enough as I approach the end of my plan. If struggling to pay your bills for whatever reason give them a call and they advise your best options. Reviewed on: 6th May 2026
