Poor Customer Service and incompetance (black box)

1
19 year old male, first car and insurance. 8 months into policy he decides he is changing his car - a very simple process to just change the details and pay the difference. Wrong! We were told that he needed to pay off the remainder of this year insurance and then change it to the new car at the rate of 900/month. Checked on a compare site, the cheapest for his new car was 1300 and Tesco were around 2400 - not around 10k for a car which is worth less than 1000. After another call to cancel and pay the remainder of the yearly insurance, I was told that he could have the insurance for the remainder of his policy (approx. 4 months) at 20 a month more than he was currently paying. I am sorry but this is just wrong as the first person would not admit that there was something wrong with her info and was adamant that is what his car would cost. Her words "you need to call us before you buy a car and seek permission to change your policy". Reviewed on: 7th August 2016

I have been with Tesco for 5 years, I have 6 years no claims and pay £36 a month, Tesco renewed policy put it up to £55 per month !! I have made no claims and no changes to policy and gained an extra years no claims yet they put it up this much, rang them they said theres nothing they can do sometimes insurance goes up in price, I live in a rural village with low crime rate, Tesco are greedy and try to manipulate customers to pay more, they should be good to their customers not rip them off, stay well clear I wish I had. Great Claims Process, Great Telephone Support, Clear Paperwork

Year 1: My First Car & First Insurance Policy, Black Box, 18 Male (now 21). Reason: Mum had a policy with them, dealt with her claim smoothly, she now doesn't drive however she highly rated them. Changes to Policy: During this period i changed car, they re-quoted, and added the difference to my monthly payments, new paperwork emailed through as i drove away from dealership. Claim: Shortly after getting my new policy, someone decided to stop in front of me (i hit their bum, sorry!) - Damage to my car was non-existent but theirs was fairly damaged. Tesco handled the whole claim, a few scary emails because i missed one of their calls but i called them straight back and all was OK. Year 2 - Renewal Despite Claim, my renewal cost was less than previous year, and less than anything on Compare the Market. A1 purchased. - No Claims in Yr2. Year 3 - Not Renewed While i would have loved to renew with them, the renewal was 50% more than Yr2, so I've now renewed with GeneralAccident who offered better deal & no black box run by Aviva, so far very good online system however i would not like to review until yr 2. Closing Notes: A1 Service, Good Pricing, Clear Visibility, Good Telephone Support, No Long Waits, Black Box not strict - very relaxed in fact. Would consider again. Reviewed on: 21st July 2016

We've only had to contact Tesco about our car insurance when renewing, change of details or when our windscreen needed replacing. They were fantastic, quick and effective. Reviewed on: 14th July 2016

Renewals are not very competitive. You need to check pricing online and not go direct to Tesco. Reviewed on: 14th July 2016

OK but not spectacular

OK but not many frills. High XS on the claims if you have one. Service OK. Reviewed on: 25th June 2016
