Getting money out - more hoops than a can of spaghetti

My husband and i an account which we have had for over ten years it a fixed rate with access at maturity. BIG MISTAKE getting that one, we need some of that money now but the building society say unless we an give them a reason for the withdrawal that THEY thing is reasonable the answer is no. When we said it is for medical care , however, they want an invoice before they will release OUR money. Now i understand that there are terms and conditions that need to be up held but really one withdrawal in 10 years never touch it previously then to be told that i have to PROVE that the reason I want our money has to meet with faceless nameless peoples views of what they think is valid. Ridiculous, roll on maturity we will be off like a shot. PLEASE look carefully at the account you have as there is no humanity here. Reviewed on: 24th July 2023

Reply from Family Building Society Hi Kate The 1 Year Fixed Rate Bond you hold is a fixed term account where there is no access to the funds before maturity. This is clearly stated in all the paperwork we provide. Any requests for early access to funds are referred to our Executives and will only be considered in cases of extreme financial hardship, (and evidence of this would be required). The money we lend on mortgages is determined by the savings that we hold, so any decision to release funds early, has an impact. We also need to apply consistency and treat customers fairly. I have invested with many building societies over the years, and have been very impressed with the way The Family Building Society has dealt with my initial application. I particularly like the posted savings certificate and letter, together with Dedicated Contact Details etc. I know we should be heading for a paperless world, but I do like to keep some hard copies on file. Can't do anything with the account. As soon as I log in and try to do access my account I find I've been logged out again. I have to log again and again and again and I never get the chance to do anything. Money sent to the building society does not appear in my account. I get email notification of a message and to log in to read but as soon as I click on messages I am logged out again. Reviewed on: 12th July 2023
