Review of the Vitality, Health insurance:

A Vitality policy means will always pay in the end

1
My insurance started in 2017 with a premium of just over £315 per month for my husband and I. Our renewal quote for 2023/24 is £724 per month (from £515 for the past year). Our premium has gone up without fail every year by around 25%; this year, it is an increase of just under 41%. Our crime? Me getting and then surviving breast cancer and then in 2022 having a minor obstetric procedure. My cancer, thanks only to the NHS, was caught very early so I have only had to have a yearly scan and check-up by my Oncologist since a 2017 lumpectomy and radiation treatment. This was followed by 5 years of cancer-free scans. By the way, I'm 58, 5'7, weighing 61kg, a surfer, kiteboarder, and wing foiler. I am incredibly fit and healthy and I wear a fitness tracker; I'm absolutely Vitality's target client, yet they've been ruthless. Even given my level of activity, I've only managed to get to Bronze status so looking at my activity level, I must assume that you have to be an olympic athlete to get higher points. When I had my initial cancer diagnosis, Vitality spent time trying to prove that I knew about it before taking out the policy. My diagnosis was on March 7th 2018 and I took the policy out in Sept 2017. I didn't know and my GP confirmed it, but not before Vitality caused me a huge amount of extra unnecessary stress on top of a devastating cancer diagnosis making me go to the GP to request documents to prove I wasn't lying. They later apologised and sent me flowers. If you do need a check-up for anything, Vitality is set up to make it difficult/time consuming to achieve 'approval' (I'm sure you will be familiar with the waiting message 'we are receiving a very high volume of calls at the moment, blah blah blah'). The last time I wrote a bad review on Vitality, they spent months trying to have it removed, reporting that I had made a mistake in posting to the 'wrong' company. If you are reading this it's because you are looking for Vitality customer's opinions. Here's my advice, don't buy a Vitality policy; it's better to put those ever-increasing premiums in a savings account of your own in case you need future treatment or find a less ruthless insurance provider who understands risk. Vitality will punish you and claw back any costs they incur in your premiums. No-one in their right mind would think that 25% year on year increases followed by a 41% increase is reasonable. Even Usay Compare who have handled my policy are aghast at the level of my premium increases. It's clearly a company strategy to do this as when I asked for the minor procedure permission, they had to warn me in a carefully worded policy script that any treatment I had 'would effect my premium'. So please bear in mind the following: insurance should always present a 'risk' for the company providing it. Some people don't claim at all. For example, my husband has not claimed a single £'s worth of treatment since we took out the policy ; hasn't even seen a doctor. Vitality don't offer him a discount for not making a claim, but they have penalised me excessively. My premiums have now totalled almost as much as any treatment received. That seems to be the aim/policy of Vitality. They don't take a risk with their customers, they simply claim back the cost of having you as a client by increasing your premiums. I'm in the process of renewing now with Bupa and I'm told my premium will be under £300 per month with continued cancer cover, just in case. I'm not remotely interested in hearing 'from the team' as Vitality have written below. Previous complaints over the years have all fallen on deaf ears; the level of premium increases have never relented but this year's increase will finally drive me away as a customer: I think that's what they've wanted all along but as a cancer survivor moving insurance is very tricky until you are at least 5 years cancer free. Utter waste of money.

Sounds fabulous when signing up but tried using online gp( 5 day wait ) , daughter had terrible rash wanted to see a dermatologist, they diagnosed her on the phone with chronic acne..it was an allergic reaction as saw nhs gp. You are covered for literally nothing when you try phone up. Website is worst usable ever, utterly confusing and literally a minefield. For my premiums I could have seen several private gps, bought 2 i watches and all the coffees, I couldn’t claim from nero ( another website that was terrible , and still had change from £2000.. Avoid. Reviewed on: 7th October 2021

AVOID

1
I note all the reviews about Waitrose vouchers , great chatty customer services, a wonderful experience setting up a direct debit..... read the comments regarding making a claim , they will firstly try and put you off suggesting your premium will go up then they will send you a ten page document for your GP and advise your GP will charge you then they will advise your excess, if you not already ill , you will be after that drama , customer services ask you to leave reviews , read the reviews POST CLAIM , avoid like the plague Reviewed on: 29th September 2021

Hidden agendas

I read all the reviews suggesting great friendly service , that's clearly pre - claim , please read the reviews POST CLAIM, they are a gang that don't want to pay out when you need them, your health matters NOT Reviewed on: 29th September 2021

Con artists

My wife has been suffering hip pain and requested consultation to investigate. Vitality have refused, claiming the condition is pre-existing. This is untrue. We have obtained a GP letter to confirm the issue is new but they still refuse to support. Happy to take the premium but won't provide the service we are paying for. Totally fraudulent. Do not buy! Reviewed on: 9th September 2021

Joke of a company who will avoid paying out at all costs!

1
Do not take a policy out with this company! We have been paying our premiums in full and on time for years. I needed to make a claim this year to be told they won't pay me out and have cancelled our policy with no return of premiums paid! They find any excuse to negate a claim and really should not be allowed to practise! They are all helpful when taking out the policy but will make it impossible to claim. Given a death sentence

Been paying these people for years, got cancer and they denied the claim... they say heavy periods two years prior was a pre existing condition, despite the gp and consultant saying it was totally unrelated and has absolutely no relatable connection whatsoever to this form of cancer... anyway, they denied and now won’t get treatment due to covid for months. This company is vile.... I can’t stress how vile they are. They seemingly took pleasure in denying the claim, I learned later that this denial meant the claims adjuster gets a bonus, VILE If I survive this I will be surfing these vile people. Vitality denies surgery claims

1
Vitality supposedly covers dental surgery but they denied my impacted wisdom-tooth claim, despite it meeting their criteria of "surgical removal of impacted teeth or partially erupted teeth" and "complicated buried roots.". I think they are a marketing company, not an insurance company, they exist to sell you more things. Their health incentives are appealing, so you may have a fun experience -- if you never get ill. I have never had a problem with Vitality and their product has been life-changing for me. Their healthy living programme made me consider my life choices and I am a much healthier person because of it! As well as this I have found claiming to be straightforward and pain-free. Would recommend! Reviewed on: 8th June 2021

What I think of Vitality in 2021!!!

1
I am sad to have to write a review that contradicts my earlier review..for Vitality Healthcare I still feel the same with regards to the service received by Vitality however this current unprecedented year I have been totally disappointed in them as a company!! They have absolutely NO idea what their clients needs have been..this year when things have been so uncertain with deaths to the pandemic, job losses (with many more to come!) What has their response been?? The company have provided us with coffee vouchers for Waitrose, exercise videos and such like!!! What have companies like AXA and BUPA done for their clients ( This I can tell you for sure as my partner is with AXA and a member of my family with BUPA) AXA have a two month holiday on their premiums for 2019 and thereafter a further two month holiday for 2020, if this alone was not brilliant they went on to waive the excess of £500 because of covid! ( proof of all I have) BUPA too came through for there clients on premium holidays. When challenged about this Vitality offered me £250 a day if I caught Covid.... Reviewed on: 1st April 2021
