Review of the AA, Car insurance:

After being involved in a non-fault accident, my experience with AA Insurance has gone far beyond poor customer service — it has become a case of potential consumer rights violations, data protection breaches, and failure to comply with basic principles of fair treatment. On 12 March 2025, AA Insurance issued me a written letter (sent via recorded delivery), confirming various forms of support. Among their offers were: • No excess payment • A suitable replacement vehicle delivered to me • Free pickup and delivery for repairs • A dedicated aftercare team • No impact on my No Claims Discount • No forms required, everything handled over the phone • A like-for-like replacement vehicle: specifically offering an AUDI RS7 TFSI V8 QUATTRO AUTO or equivalent, at no cost to me • £35.60 per day rental coverage if the exact model was not available • Vehicle repairs arranged at one of their approved garages, with warranty compliance Notably, this written offer did not include any statement that services were offered “without prejudice” or “not an admission of liability.” However, after I raised concerns regarding the contradictory handling of my case, AA responded via email by saying: “We offer services, such as hire, on a without prejudice basis to mitigate the claims costs, however this is not an admission of liability.” This is a retrospective justification that directly contradicts the initial letter — raising serious concerns about fairness and transparency. This Process Contradicts the Following Laws & Regulations: 1. Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 Section 5(2): “A commercial practice is unfair if it omits material information or presents it in a misleading way, affecting the consumer’s decision-making.” Comment: AA initially made clear promises, only to later alter the terms and revoke services. This constitutes misleading commercial conduct. 2. Consumer Rights Act 2015 Section 49 – Reasonable Care and Skill Section 50 – Binding Information Commitments made before or at the time of a contract are binding if relied upon. Comment: AA’s letter was clear, detailed, and specific. Their later denial of liability is incompatible with Section 50, which binds businesses to uphold the representations made. 3. FCA Principles for Businesses Principle 6 – Customers’ Interests Principle 7 – Communications with Clients Comment: Both principles require honesty and transparency. AA’s change of position and post-facto denial of responsibility violates these standards. 4. UK GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018 AA also admitted contacting my personal insurer without my consent — all while saying they were “awaiting further response from your insurer” and not offering any service. • Article 6(1)(a): Requires explicit consent to process personal data. • Article 5(1)(a) and (b): Lawfulness, fairness, and transparency in processing. • DPA 2018: Prohibits third-party data sharing without lawful justification. Comment: I invoked my rights under GDPR and requested a copy of any shared information. My request was ignored. Instead, I was told: “We have every right to contact your insurer, we don’t need your permission.” This raises serious data privacy concerns, and I have reported the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Final Note: When I asked AA for further clarification regarding their abrupt reversal and denial of liability, I was told: “A new information came to light.” No explanation was ever provided Conclusion: • AA promised support, then withdrew it without cause or explanation. • They refused to let me clarify the status of my business-use vehicle. • My personal data may have been shared unlawfully. • They ignored my lawful Subject Access Requests. • They contradicted their own written commitments. This experience has been marked by inconsistency, opacity, and potentially unlawful practices. I am sharing this review to ensure others are fully aware before engaging with AA Insurance. Protect yourself — document everything, and seek legal guidance if needed. Reviewed on: 22nd April 2025

Appalling!

Appalling claims experience! Just changed to AA Insurance, unfortunately had to make a claim a month ago. Car still outside my house waiting for repairs to be authorised. Even allowing for the holiday period, this is an unreasonable delay. Different departments don't seem to communicate with each other; I've had to make numerous calls myself. Third party details that I submitted not 'loaded onto the system' for 2 weeks. Excessive wait times for calls to be answered. No response to emails, including from the complaints section. Will change insurers as soon as this claim completed. PS Just been told that the earliest date for repair of my car is 11 Feb! Reviewed on: 11th January 2023

Very poor service

Having read a lot of the reviews below , I to feel let down by the AA. My car was hit while parked by an out of control driver. The AA repairs garage had my car 12 weeks saying they we’re waiting for parts. When it was returned it had a broken grill damaged body work and missing parts. The car was taken back to the garage and was kept another 8 weeks before it was returned again . An independent assessor examination revealed poor paint work missing parts . Nine months later after an apology from a senior engineer my car has still not been repaired properly. Such poor service, endless emails and phone call and nobody gets back to me. I’m a 72 year old pensioner, I thought using the AA was a safe company a company to rely on a company iv been a member for 50years . My car is on my drive stil not repaired, I’m still waiting for someone to have the courtesy to contact me , I don’t complain but I have today . Bad service. Reviewed on: 22nd December 2022

Worst Insurance Service Ever

1
Absolutely pathetic level of service ... Guy be aware of the game they play through the customer services.. My Vehicle battery was dead .. i called them and ask for the assistance... They customer service representative told be that car tax is expired i told her ok i will tax and call she didnt say anything.... Next morning i called her again she said ok somebody is going to come... she kept on waiting and when in the end they cant manage to come they simply called and excused that first time you called your vehicle was not taxed we cant help.. I asked them she could have told me more then 12 hours ago ..why she didnt guide me... He said we cant do anything that how we do.. I said to him my insurance was valid yesterday he said yes.. i asked him what was valid service at that time .. she said no service just membership was valid but no service you can take.. I asked him why you take money if there is no valid service he said we cant do anything... I asked him who is going to pick my daughter from school because of your mistake this happened he said... you should rush ... and go pick her up ... That was the sign that we don't do anything... we are here to say No... I kept on asking why that customer service representative kept me waiting for more then 12 hours i could have arranged someone but he said i cant say anything.. that how we are Be aware guy that we the worst service ever they will take money and whenever you need them if they are busy they will have hundred of excuses.... So do not take them seriously they are absolutely wasting time. I would not recommend anyone to pay money and think that this will work Reviewed on: 2nd December 2022

FULL UK RECOVERY ????

3
I got a good price from the AA no doubt about that. Ironically the insurer is AXA who also do Saga , my previous company but here's the thing. Full national recover to home covers you for ONE CALL OUT PER YEAR. I'm putting it in shouty writing because the AA didn't. Reviewed on: 2nd December 2022

Appalling customer service!

We were the unfortunate victims of a clear non fault accident. Have received almost no communication or update on our claim from The AA in a month, had to chase them every step of the way. Now received a total loss offer which is approximately £1400.00 below the current market value of our car & they won't budge. Why should we end up with a significantly lesser car than we had before, through no fault of our own? Terrible customer service, unfortunately you only find out when you need to make a claim. Do yourself a favour & stay away from them, they are truly terrible! Never again. Reviewed on: 6th October 2022

Not Professional.

1
Car insurance seems to be a con they are a law unto themselves and its going to get worse. Been with Saga and AA car insurance. Even when you have paid them up and in full they appear to demand even more specially when they are not owned for payments. We will be glad to shop arround for new car insurance before renewal.
