Avoid This Bank Like The Pestilence

Avoid this branch and the uncooperative bank like the pestilence. The cooperative bank trades on the big selling point of being ethical, what a joke. I have PTSD, ADHD and Autism and when I tried to make a cash withdrawal from the Doncaster branch of the aforementioned bank they would not give me my own money because they did not believe what I was spending it on. I produced my autism awareness card but was still treated beneath contempt. Bear in mind I phoned online banking before going in to the bank to make my cash withdrawal and was told that I would encounter no problems. Anyway the cashier said I was basically lying about my intended purchases, then asked me how I wanted my money, gave me the slip of which I signed and then said I could not have my own money. I once more showed her my Autism awareness card, she called the manager who further intimidated me and I left the branch minus my own money, totally distraught and publicly humiliated. When I got home I made a complaint and jokingly said, “What do I have to do to withdraw my own money, wear a mask and brandish a shot gun?” The phone line went dead and then come the weekend I received a visit from the Police, yes the bank reported me to the police for my off the cuff remark, the Policeman saw the joke and advised me to change banks. I replied, the none ethical cooperative bank have given me thirty days notice of closure of an account that I’ve held for over twenty five years. I escalated my complaint and they offered me thirty quid, but I have reported this none ethical bank to the ombudsman, whatever you do don’t open an account with this bank, because they do not want you to have access to your own money and are, given my above experience not disable friendly, uncaring, unfriendly, belligerent and totally without any ethics and discriminatory in their handling of disabled customers. I suggest a name change for this bank to the, “Uncooperative Bank” Reviewed on: 6th December 2021

WORST ONLINE BANKING EVER

THEY won’t provide you bankstatments . set up a new payee is painful, would not log you on your phone , you need to carry you login detals and token all the time . to get through the customer service is imposible. Reviewed on: 24th August 2023

Nothing works!!!

I got offered £1500 to move to coop from Natwest and what a huge mistake that was! Nothing works! You can't move money from the current to the savings account on the app you have to go on a desktop and use the token, setting up payees can only be done from the desktop and then it takes hours for it to activate. The app constantly keeps unregistering me from my phone "due to inactivity" when I am using it everyday multiple times a day! My card gets blocked from being able to make purchases online regularly then when I finally get through to them on the phone they can't explain why it is blocked?! It shouldn't be able to operate as a bank and I am so glad to be leaving, 2 years of nothing but hassle trying to do simple things that other banks just seem to do easily. If I could turn back time I wouldn't of switched for £15,000 never mind £1500!!! Reviewed on: 5th August 2023

I should have listened to others and bad reviews!

Painful, setting up a business account has been painful, pure and simple. Way too many hoops to jump through, the need for endless phone calls, and being put on hold, and not once but twice I have to actually print a form out, sign, scan it and email it back. Really? In today's day and age of technology! And that is before I can even access it on my phone. Nowhere does it tell you that you need to do it on a computer first! Crazy! And for it to take a month to change from my last bank, why? Why so long? Surely it is all automated pretty much nowadays? And the endless messages they send to your phone that takes so long to log in and look at. Don't do it people! Stick with one of the young technology hotshots on the scene now that can be set up in minutes... Unbelievable.... Reviewed on: 28th June 2023

Slow and no reason for refusal for fsb account

Gave all details and despite taking a long time refused an account with out given reason. The directors had experian credit scores off 999 can only conclude its was directors age which went against use. Surprising the fsb have anything to do with this lot! Reviewed on: 25th April 2023

It really is as bad as the reviews indicate

I was offered £1000 to transfer my business account from RBS to the Co-op. Big mistake! Had to ring up on at least three occasions when my token was blocked for no obvious reason. Staff helpful if you can actually speak to them after waiting hours on the phone. Learnt my lesson now and leaving. Reviewed on: 25th April 2023

Shockingly awful

I appreciate it is hard to get partnership accounts with banks and I would always prefer a more ethical bank, but the coop business account is awful in almost every way. Online banking is difficult to access, not very user friendly, it takes ages to set up to payees (something you need to do all the time when running a business) and its app is very limited. It takes forever with awful music. The only thing in it's favour is that it is free to use. Reviewed on: 8th April 2023

Dont Do it!

Honestly i persevere for ethical reasons, which is fine on a personal account, but you cannot run a business on this antiquated system - no advance D/d notices. Downloading statements is by week not month (try doing 12 months) you cannot even use the phone app to transfer between the current account and the savings account - ITS SO BAD. £909.87 missing from our business account.

£909.87 missing from our business account. Staff member working from home and has limited resources. Claims it will take 25 working days to investigate, which is over a month. Manager Colin refuses to come onto the phone from the office. On the phone for over 2h 6min and counting!!! Reviewed on: 5th January 2023

Such a Shame

It's such a shame. I wanted to bank with co-op for ethical reasons but it's just not worth the hassle. Their systems are archaic, inefficient and slow. Customer services is under resourced and have very little power to help with issues as they're restricted by the inefficient systems in place. The simplest of things takes forever, every time you try and contact them you're on hold for ages and very little is resolved. I just don't have the time, they're slowing down the effective running of my business so sadly I will be taking my custom elsewhere. This is my second time trying business banking with co-op, I convinced myself to give them another go and immediately regretted it. Reviewed on: 7th October 2022
