The Home Insurance option is a standard policy. Direct Line’s Home Insurance Plus policy includes all the features of the Home Insurance cover but with extras included, such as personal possessions, accidental damage and home emergency protection.

A few years ago our house got broken into whilst we were at work, a lot of electrical things were stolen like a TV, consoles, games, a computer. When we first came back it was a horrible feeling to walk through the door that was hanging off it's frame, we waited 4 hours for police and they questioned us as if we were the criminals but when we spoke to direct line they were friendly, sympathetic and talked us through everything we needed to do. The process was pretty painfree and we were given a card with funds on to buy back the stuff we had lost. The only thing we were not covered for was a bracelet that we did not have proof of purchase for as it was handed down from a family member but it was more the sentimental value that mattered to us. But the fact that they not only covered our belongings they understood what a horrible time it was for us made the whole thing a lot easier. I would definitely recommend them and I'm so pleased that this was the company we were with at the time. Reviewed on: 11th September 2016

Quick and easy claim handling

My experience with the claim handlers was great. Quick, friendly, efficient and informative. As a result of this experience I stayed with Direct Line the following year with an expected price rise. Unfortunately when I went to renew for the 3rd year (after over a year no claims) the price really leapt up so I had to move to another provider. Reviewed on: 1st September 2019

Great cover for the price!

We have had Direct Line home insurance for a few years now. We had to claim one year when there was a terrible storm and the roof tiles were blown off the house. They responded very quickly and paid out without any trouble. Reviewed on: 31st August 2019

Avoid this company

Refused to pay out on storm damage to new build house initially claiming that there had been no storm, then when I proved their had been stated that the damage was a 'maintenance issue' with the roof. In any other type of business this would be fraud, but apparently it's ok because it's an insurance company. Reviewed on: 31st August 2019

Not positive..... Water damage.... Yes they will eventually send someone out to stop the leak. But as for repairing the damage.... That's a no. Go in our case... Most unhelpful peeps on the other end of the phone... Reviewed on: 19th August 2019

Not reliable

Quoted a price - I saved it, and their system lost it. Re-quoted exactly the same data - 20% more expensive. Rang the up to be told that happens all the time. If you can't trust them to quote properly, what chance of getting a claim dealt with? Reviewed on: 23rd July 2019
