Review of the Halifax, Current account:

Almost no local branches remain and the staff are clueless but the reward's kind of OK

Thanks, the Halifax, for shutting down all my easily-accessible local branches. I've had to open a new bank account with a different company, specifically so I can cash the odd cheque and then I have to do an online transfer of whatever amount the cheque was for into my Halifax current account, but that's horses for courses. In my experience your in-branch bank staff are total numties, however. Left hand / right hand - neither knowing what the other one's doing. Banking rules - rates for kid accounts - they know next to nothing about anything. You'd think they'd pick up some of the relevant info about your bank accounts just by the chance of them coming in to work at the Halifax every day - but as far as I can tell that's never happened so far. Really! Not ever. Time and again they've given me information that's inaccurate, if not actively outright contradicted by the next person I go in to speak with to sort out the mess the first person who 'advised' me created. Room for improvement? Yes, I'll say! The Halifax however, doesn't actively charge me for having a bank account which some of the others do and as I can't be bothered changing, and sometimes they even 'reward' me with a fiver for having a bank account with them, overall, I can't really complain.
