Review of the Halifax, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Extremely untrustworthy

Do not even apply for a mortgage with these extremely unprofessional individuals. Initially I was told that they would lend me £125,000 for the mortgage and gave an AIP. Next they said they'd only loan me £99,000 because I spent £3000 to book a holiday on my credit card (which is what sound minded people do for insurance). Next day they told me that they could loan me somewhere between £119,000 and £135,000 with the full and same details i gave them again. Two days later, after sending my application to an underwriter, they saidnthey could only lend me £113,000 and specifically stated that this as because I had booked my holiday in my credit card DESPITE me paying it off days later. Utterly vile individuals. How is that junk bank still in operation. Managed by idiots. Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Fair when renewing my mortgage

I have had 3 fixed-rate mortgages now, with the Halifax, each time when re-fixing I researched and each time the Halifax has come up with competitive rates, offers and terms. It has been painless, simple and quick to re-fix. Reviewed on: 8th November 2017

Good but not always consistent

I have been with Halifax for over 20 years and generally I'm very pleased but lately they seem overworked and too busy to follow things up. I had to phone 3 times to get some documents sent by post. They need to sharpen up! Reviewed on: 29th June 2017

Easy to set up

We applied for a mortgage last year and had very choices as my husband had been resident in the UK for less than 2 years. Halifax was one of the few banks that were open to us and were able to obtain the mortgage and buy our first home with a 5% downpayment, they also had a 2,000 cashback offer at the time which was great to pay the fees. We're very happy to be on the property ladder and have had a good experience getting our mortgage with Halifax. Reviewed on: 29th June 2017

Tricky to contact

Amazing.

Through our mortgage advisor we were blown away with all the different companies we could choose to get our mortgage with, but Halifax was the one that stood out not only was it the cheapest but it also gave us £500 cash back which was enough to pay our mortgage advisor and put the rest towards the lawyer fee's! Absolutely amazing would recommend anyone to go with Halifax. Reviewed on: 20th June 2017

Halifax Mortgages, so easy to understand

I find most banks & building societies make things complicated but Halifax write to me all the time, explaining things I didnt even know needed explaining. I cannot fault them and every time i have needed to change something they have been so efficient. I am half way through my mortgage term and my rate runs out in a year but there is no way I would leave them to go anywhere else. Reviewed on: 12th February 2017
