The company failed to inform Me of several savings rate reductions throughout 2024 and when i complained they were arrogant and totally un - understanding and unhelpful Reviewed on: 1st October 2024

Reply from Harpenden Building Society Dear Simon, Thank you for your review and I’m sorry to understand that you are unhappy with the service you have received- specifically relating to communications regarding interest rate reductions. We monitor all electronic communications to establish if any messages are ‘undelivered’ or ‘suppressed’ and will look to contact these customers through a different channel. We have fully reviewed and investigated your complaint and have sent you our final response on the 1st of October. This details how to refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service if you are not satisfied with the outcome of your complaint, however we would welcome further discussion if anything in our final response is factually incorrect. Unhelpful bureaucracy

I wanted to take money out of my easy access isa and put the same amount back in - later in this tax year. The isa legislation allows this but you do not. I am transferring my account to Nationwide who do allow this. I was also not impressed by having to close my previous account and open a new one to get decent rates Reviewed on: 5th September 2024

I am sorry to hear that you have not been satisfied with your recent interaction with Harpenden Building Society. You are absolutely right, the ISA legislation does allow for funds to be removed and paid back within the same tax year. This would be a flexible ISA, which at the moment is not a product we have available. Existing members are signposted to review their accounts to ensure that they still suit their needs. We have made improvements to the process for existing members to open new accounts both though the online portal and in branch. We have and will continue to monitor closed accounts to ensure that these provide our members with fair value. EXCELLENT GOOD OLD FASHIONED CUSTOMER SERVICE

On every occasion I have contact the Society I have received prompt, courteous and informed advice about our savings. Their rates are very competitive and their range of products concise and easy to understand. Like we used to receive from our local bank manager - now long gone. Reviewed on: 4th September 2024

More detailed clarity needed - Open an ISA

The process was unclear; firstly the ISA product stated "PAYMENT OF INTEREST - Payment Type Into My Savings Account". I had to clarify that this meant the ISA savings account I was opening and NOT my existing savings account. ie; the interest will become part of the ISA. Then once opened, the acknowledgement letter stated "Your current variable rate of interest...", when in fact it was a Fixed rate of interest. Thirdly, the whole process of making an ISA Transfer into the HBS ISA account was cumbersome; it was not an electronic process, so a form had to be completed by hand. It was then not clear where the form had to be sent. eg; by email or a visit to the branch or by post to Head Office. In the end I sent it by email and also took it to the branch. To be fair, it was processed very quickly but still not sure if it was the email version or the hand delivered version that was acted upon. The process just needs a little more attention to detail.
