Such caring people

I went in to open a savings account at the Broughton Astley Branch . My husband was with me because I am blind. The lady that helped me was so kind and patient, friendly and pleasant. She told me that she was still in training so would have to get another member of staff to go through some of the fine details with me. She helped me with the form and the male member of staff then came and read out the terms and conditions. It is an absolute joy to go into financial institute that actually has branches open and staff willing to help you rather than try to direct you to a machine. Long may it continue. Room for improvement - New Accounts

I completed a new 5 Yr Fixed ISA form & returned it by post as requested as H&R do not allow this account to be opened on line. I then received a phone call from a member of staff to say my form had been received, but to finalise opening the account, I needed to transfer the opening amount of £20,000 & she then proceeded to tell me the new Sort Code, Account No. & Reference No. I did say that I would prefer to receive a letter or email with the account information, but she said this was not possible (or words to that effect), because I had to pay in to the account within 5 days of it being opened. After considering this request, I thought it could be a scam, as it seemed a strange way of opening an account. I telephoned the next morning to say I did not want to go ahead and gave the reason why, and asked that the account be closed. The lady I spoke to understood my concerns, but said that as the account had been opened, they couldn’t close it, but that she would speak to Head Office and get back to me. She rang back after speaking to Head Office and said they would send a letter with a SAE, with the account information and would give me an extended period to either send a cheque or transfer the opening balance electronically. I received the letter, transferred the £20,000 and I have since received an email confirmation and that a Passbook was on its way. I do think H&R need to look at their procedures as a member of staff ringing to ask a customer to transfer a large sum of money over the phone has all the hallmarks of a scam. If anyone from Head Office would like to speak to me about my experience of opening an account, I would be more than happy to oblige. Reviewed on: 27th January 2023

Very Friendly Service

I recently opened a savings account with the Nuneaton Branch by post, to my surprise I received a phone call from them letting me know they had received my application and that my passbook would be with me shortly. Rainy Day Account: First class service and product

An amazing Building Society

I took out a postal savings account, mainly, I admit because of the competitive interest rate on offer. The H&R is different because; a) you are able to speak to a person literally within seconds of calling, b) the efficiency of the service is incredible - I sent a passbook with a cheque on Wednesday (second class) and received the passbook back and updated on Friday.
