Poor customer service and poor app

In general, Monzo is a great bank, that is until you face any kind of real problem. By problem, I mean something that is Monzo’s fault and not yours. Monzo customer service are great at resolving problems so long as you have pressed the wrong button for example, however if their app is at fault they very rarely do anything about it. A perfect example is the “get paid early” feature. Monzo will allow you to get your BACS salary payment a day early, however if you do this, the summary feature in the app breaks as it expects you to be paid the next day. Despite me reporting this and a massive thread on their forums about it, it’s been over a year and nothing is done. Their customer service can sometimes take weeks to reply, it’s the slowest customer service I’ve ever received. They also use bots to reply to customers despite denying this when asked, pretending that they are real people. Incredibly disingenuous behaviour, poor customer service and broken app features makes Monzo a poor bank for customers. Reviewed on: 13th April 2021

The Bank That Actually Gets Me

Monzo has been a truly fantastic bank — and I don’t say that lightly. Unlike the high street banks that still feel stuck in a different era, Monzo actually adapts to how real people live. These guys are bloody fantastic, from switching accounts, to help dealing with fraud, to switching my pension over and also getting wages early. Genuinely great

It’s such a good bank! Easy to use app, customer support chat has always been helpful & actually resolve the problems. Savings challenges have been a super helpful way to boost my savings, as have the easy to set up savings pots. Cashback offers are good & the perks available if you upgrade are actually good. Debanking by Monzo ruined my credit

Monzo notified me that my account was being closed, and they couldn’t tell me why. I was being “debanked”. Nigel Farage got a lot of press coverage when this happened to him. I appealed to them for consideration, but was told the decision was final and they wouldn’t tell me why. They even suggested they were legally unable to tell me why. While this was true if I was actually committing financial crime, the fact that they reviewed and overturned the decision means that was incorrect. Unfortunately when they reviewed the decision they failed to communicate that to me. I then went through with changing banks, which was incredibly disruptive. It also meant the automatic payment of my Monzo loan was disrupted, leading to me falling into arrears while I dealt with their customer service and the ombudsman. I was eventually awarded £500 compensation. They’ve now dicked me about some more, so I might go back to the ombudsman. Take this as a warning - don’t trust your entire financial life to a faceless institution where you can never truly engage with someone. Reviewed on: 22nd January 2026
