About this product

The Nationwide FlexDirect current account pays interest on your money and you can earn cashback on debit card purchases for the first 12 months.

If you’re eligible for an overdraft, the first £50 is interest free. The FlexDirect account has to be managed online or over the phone, not at the branch.

Nationwide FlexDirect current account reviews help you find out what it’s really like to be a customer. If you’ve used Nationwide before, you can also leave a review and share your experience..

Review of the Nationwide, FlexDirect:

I was able to open my account online and have used the app for everything I need. It's a little annoying and outdated that they send a card reader where you have to insert your card to approve online transactions - thankfully you don't need this for every transaction. The interest rate is good but only for a low balance so I've opened a savings account with a different bank, even though I'd rather keep products with one provider. Reviewed on: 15th February 2024

The app is a bit clunky. The interest rate is competitive. Annoying you have to use card readers. Staff are friendly and helpful. Nice that everyone is a member rather than shareholder. More branches than other providers. Reviewed on: 15th February 2024

Solid but uninspired bank choice

Nationwide, while a stalwart in the UK banking sector, leaves much to be desired in terms of innovation. Their online and mobile banking platforms, while functional, lack the modern flair and advanced features that other competitors offer. In addition, their customer service, while satisfactory, can at times be slow to respond. Although Nationwide's range of financial products is extensive, their offerings may not always be as competitive as those from other banks. Consider Nationwide as a solid, if somewhat uninspired, banking choice. Reviewed on: 15th February 2024

I chose Nationwide for their ethical position and I'm happy I did. Everything is good, but their app isn't quite as up-to-date as other banks. For example, you can't pay cheques into your account with the app. Reviewed on: 15th February 2024

Good current account and easy to use but linked savings accounts are not that competitive apart from the regular saver. Reviewed on: 8th January 2024

UNFAIR Fairer Share

1
I didn't qualify for the fairer share payment, despite having put over £600,000 through my FlexDirect account (which is always in credit) in the last ten years and also having a Nationwide credit card account. I wrote (yes, a real letter) to Nationwide to complain and got a standard response which pretended that I had asked for clarification of whether I qualified or not. It said I was unqualified because I did not have a £100 (i.e. <0.02% of what I had put through my account) in a savings account in March 2023. The response did NOT acknowledge that my letter was a COMPLAINT and did NOT respond to my request that I should receive the payment. A VERY POOR RESPONSE TO A COMPLAINT ABOUT VERY POOR TREATMENT.
