Your money isn’t safe here

1
Nationwide’s banking app has a glitch which they admit. If you cancel your standing orders it doesn’t cancel on both ends. So they disappeared from my account but Nationwide carried on paying them without my consent. They paid them for 3 years without my knowledge. I’m really sick so didn’t scroll down on the app to see if they were paying something they shouldn’t and now they’re victim blaming. They’ve been gaslighting, lying and denying they owe me £900. They offered me £175 for the glitch! No give me back the money you paid out of my account without my consent! I’ve had to go to the financial ombudsman and I’m not impressed. If they take money out of your account that they shouldn’t, you won’t get it back. so why risk it, honestly bank elsewhere where your money is safe because it sure isn’t safe here. After a few incidents with my previous bank a friend recommended Nationwide. Straightforward to get an account set up. DD and SO easy to set up and amend through the banking app. Regular updates and information on other services offered and the fair share payments are an added bonus. Staff are very informed and helpful. I would have no hesiatation in recommending Nationwide. Reviewed on: 25th March 2026

They are very good people to bank with.

They are very good people to bank with. Have been with Nationwide for about 35 years and I have been very pleased with my experience with them. A flexbasic account is not for everyone as it offers only a basic account with no overdraft or cheque facility but you can pay by contactless and by direct debit. Reviewed on: 24th March 2026

Which building society 2025 hate to see who they were upagainst! Firstly, the staff are lovely. I decided to do a switch, as I'd seen on the TV that they were a great building society etc winning Which 2025. I liked the fact I would be rewarded with £175. My switch has gone through - I am apparently not eligible for the switch reward. Bit gutted however, thought at least all my accounts are in one place. Went to set up standing orders... Can't do it, I need a card reader, and I haven't got a pin number. Can't set up any payments at all. Tried adding money through my Monzo account, for a fast payment, a post office van collecting from Nationwide and personally delivering my money to Monzo headiffice would have been quicker! Spoke to customer services, however, I'm trying to figure out what they are actually authorised to do! I'm now closing my account my Nationwide and have to go through the hassle and stress of opening a brand new account elsewhere. The money that is due into my Nationwide, has left me panicking as I have no idea what will happen. I am hoping that I can go into the branch tomorrow and empty my account. EDIT - I have raised a compliant NBS8449055 and no one has contacted me. In relation to my money that I was worried about. I went into the bank today and £520 has disappeared from my current account that is now closed! Which seems to be spinning around Nationwide's hemisphere and not with me. Two days I have been left with nothing, and it does not look like things will be any better tomorrow. Now been told that I have been issued a cheque, which is not want I asked for. I have to now wait for the cheque to be cleared, sent out and then I have to pay into another account and wait for it to clear. Does not help me as I have bills, food shopping and will be left in financial hardship. So thanks Nationwide! Reviewed on: 5th February 2026
