Review of the RAC, Car Insurance:

Renewal increased by £400 for no reaso

1
My renewal came in after 2 years with RAC. They increased by £400 to £1150. I have not claimed or contacted them in the year. I have 9 years NCB and increased for no reason. Many will auto review and get completely ripped off. Shameful and criminal. I shopped around and got insured with less excess for £550. When will insurance companies be held to account. RAC - Rates Are Criminal

1
They seem to think that because my wife's car was stolen in 2022 that they could increase my premium from £303.94 to £470.56 for her to be a named driver in my policy and when I said I'll take her off the policy, they hit me for a further £54.32. I did make the mistake of not reviewing the details through a compare website so initially didn't realise that I'd overlooked her claim. I'll take that on the chin, a genuine oversight on my part. When I wanted to change my cherished plate back to the vehicle's original one, £25.00, some companies don't charge, RAC do, it's in the T's&C's of course, seems ridiculous since it's all automated but they try and explain it in their gobbledygook insurance speak. When I needed to change to a newer vehicle, they wouldn't quote so I cancelled which cost me another £45.00. so unless you've got a very mature money tree in your back garden that needs pruning, ignore any cheap looking quote from RAC insurance, it's only cheap until they invoke a clause that helps them empty your wallet or chop down the money tree. Theyre terrible, they use 3rd party companies to run their claims, they say they have cotacted us but zero emails, or telephone calls, avoid at all costs, do not use they are shockingly bad. Just can't put into words how we feel and we will never use ths company again. Dont say you have not been warned. Reviewed on: 1st March 2024

DO NOT USE RAC Insurance THEY RIP YOU OFF.

DO NOT USE RAC Insurance THEY RIP YOU OFF. In November 2023, I called on behalf of my mother to see if she could claim for an accident to her car (nothing to do with her) and was informed we were not able to claim, so we didn’t. Then in Feb 2024, I then called to change the policy to a new smaller car and was informed that it couldn’t happen as the was an outstanding claim, then followed 25 to 30 hours of telephone calls between the RAC Customer Services, Claims, Liability, Underwriters & Acromass…….. But no one knows what anyone else is doing, I chased and had it confirmed there was no claim Acromas let RAC know 2 or 3 times, the RAC connected Acromas and it was confirmed again, but no one at the RAC communicates they haven’t a clause what the other departments are doing, and leave it up to the customer to try and sort. The RAC is very quick to take your money but do not do anything for it, just a bunch of insurance fraudsters!! DO NOT USE RAC INSURANCE!!!! Reviewed on: 13th February 2024

Crash / bang / wallop - avoid

1
Avoid at all costs - car renewals will increase from 450 to over 2200. They will renew your documents before the date automatically. You want be able to access any documents through the app - and your complaints will not be heard by anyone competent. Allegedly accidents will be placed on your records that you don’t know about and they depending on who you speak to will not disclose any information about the insurance database - they are a non advisory organisation but will charge you for legal cover and a insurance service they can’t provide. Fos to follow. Reviewed on: 9th February 2024

Shockingly awful

1
Called them to submit details about my own claim. Extremely unprofessional claim handler not knowing any law and procedures he should follow- I’m a claim handler myself for a different company so I’m aware how the process looks like. Didn’t want to take any information from me saying he won’t even leave a note on the file that I called. I was in so much disbelief for a second I thought I’m not talking to claims handler- had to ask him if it’s really his job title as he acted like he absolutely couldn’t be asked to do his job. I am patient and very much aware how stressful this job can be but this experience was extremely shocking. Reviewed on: 31st January 2024

I insured my vehicle with this company because of the name, wrongly thinking they would offer a great service but NO, they weren't interested so gave me the underwriters phone number, WESYBAY, never ever have I dealt with such cowboys, I complained to the RAC as it was them I paid but they couldn't help, Westbay told me my car was a right off without even seeing a photo, when challenged, they said parts were hard to come by given its age, its 12 years old with extremely low milage. October 2023 was when the accident occurred, my vehicle was fixed in January 2024, I was refused a courtesy car, Enterprise then called me to see if they could give me a car but because I had been told it was a fault claim they couldn't offer one either. Neither of us were at fault, the highways confirmed and sent an email confirming that traffic lights were not working, we both left on a green light thus causing the accident, how is this a fault claim? I received a letter which stated I should of taken more care, you go on a GREEN light. I was told to go to Richardsons the nominated garage to see if the car could be repaired, on arrival, I was told by a lady eating crisps on reception that I was early and the surveyor was at lunch, not a problem, waited, tried to make conversation and was pretty much ignored, made to feel like an inconvenience, the surveyor took all of five minutes to look at the car and said he couldn't tell me anything, it was a bumper for goodness sake. I got a quote from an independent garage who were eventually approved after me calling them again for an update, the garage was challenged saying it should be written off, Westbay were told that a payout would be less than the car was worth. Over three months to get a bumper fixed?, I wouldn't recommend anyone to use the RAC and Westbay, their staff do not give out their surnames, not allowed to WHAT? minus 0 out 10 would be given and that is generous Reviewed on: 27th January 2024

Be aware!

Was going to let the insurance continue for a further year but forgot my credit card had changed so they couldn't take the payment. Called them to sort it out but they were so rude and unhelpful I decided to cancel it there and then and sought a new insurer. The policy had ended as I had missed the renewal date but for the next few weeks they were sending me new insurance documents as though I had renewed and at the same time cancellation notices. Clearly one hand not knowing what the other was doing. Mercifully, I didn't have an accident while insured with them. This went on for a few weeks until finally I get a bill for £121.68!! - apparently because I cancelled before the policy had expired?? and for admin fees!! Avoid them like the plague. Avoid RAC they stole money from pensioner bank account

1
These crooks auto renewed an 84 year old pensioners car insurance without sending a renewal notice. What was £500 for year 2022 was renewed at 1,331 in 2023 despite no change in circumstances or claims. We contacted RAC to cancel the insurance within the 14 day cooling off period as per their term and conditions and was advised it was cancelled on the telephone and a refund was being processed. A few days later we contacted RAC again as there had been no refund or confirmation email of cancellation to be told the insurance hadn’t been cancelled and there was no refund pending. Spoke to manager who said this time they had definitely cancelled the insurance and would receive a refund in the next few days. One day later RAC had taken yet another payment of £1,257. We contacted RAC yet again and was told the money was taken in error. They then refunded the original payment for car insurance but we are still awaiting the refund of £1,257 that was taken in error and all RAC say is the refund is processing that was 6 days ago. The customer service team are rude and argumentative. I’ve scanned every email that came through by RAC and there was 100% no renewal notice. This is Theft. The bank are now involved and have also asked RAC to return stolen money. Avoid RAC. Reviewed on: 13th December 2023
