The Basic current account has a contactless debit card, basic banking facilities, mobile banking as well as no fees for using Santander cash machines abroad.

My santender account is good enough to use.

I find my Santander account easy to manage and I couldn't think of a better account to use being at university. When I opened my student account I was given an overdraft with 0% interest which doesn't need to be paid back until I finish university. Moreover, whenever I'm in need of assistance I always come off the phone or away from the branch feeling as though I have gained all the help I need in order to solve my problems. The current account does everything you need it too...

The current account does everything you need it too the main issue is the complete lack of people available to see in branch. By the time you have commuted to the nearest branch (you will probably need your pasaport) you are usually met by someone trying to get you to use a machine after you have already quid for 5 minutes. I opened an account and was kept up to date throughout the entire process. If I had a question I could call and speak to someone. All my direct debits went across without problems- what’s not to like?? Reviewed on: 16th April 2026

Simple banking without frills, fluff or fees

I have been with Santander for many years, a legacy from Alliance & Leicester. My current account offers straightforward simple banking without unnecessary fluff and frills and there is no monthly fee. We still have a local branch albeit on reduced opening hours. I find the app excellent, it even let's me pay in cheques which before was the only reason I needed to visit the branch. Reviewed on: 6th April 2026
