The Santander Basic current account is for people who’ve been turned down for another current account, have a poor credit history, or are new to the UK for work or study.

The Basic current account has a contactless debit card, basic banking facilities, mobile banking as well as no fees for using Santander cash machines abroad.

My santender account is good enough to use.

I find my Santander account easy to manage and I couldn't think of a better account to use being at university. When I opened my student account I was given an overdraft with 0% interest which doesn't need to be paid back until I finish university. Moreover, whenever I'm in need of assistance I always come off the phone or away from the branch feeling as though I have gained all the help I need in order to solve my problems. Easy online access

I moved from RBS to A&L about 13 years ago. Then they were changed to Santander. I do everything online and pop into the branch occasionally to deposit cheques. My mortgage is also with Santander and renewing is easy online. Reviewed on: 8th November 2017

Difficult, not very flexible. No contactless

In the past 8 months I have seamlessly transferred from my old bank to Santander. On 2 occasions i've had to contact customer services and with no quibble, delay or hesitation my queries were sorted with no further issues. Reviewed on: 8th November 2017

Good customer service - not a fan though

I have a basic current account with Santander and the staff are good but I don’t go into the branch very often. I don’t like putting my card in the machine and entering my pin. I also dislike having the staff mention about upgrading my account when I’m not eligible - I am turned down every time I try! So annoying. Very security conscious which is a double edged sword - some will like it and some won’t. I also dislike the length of the queues in my local branch. Reviewed on: 6th November 2017

I HAVE NO IDEA HOW IT WORKS BUT I GET CASH BACK CREDITED TO MY CURRENT ACCOUNT JUST FOR PAYING MY UTILITY AND TELECOM BY DIRECT DEBIT AND OTHER THAN THE £5 MONTHLY FEE IT COSTS ME NO EXTRA JUST TO PAY MY BILLS! ON TOP OF THAT I GET 3% P.A. CREDITED MONTHLY ON MY CURRENT ACCOUNT BALANCE, QUITE OFTEN MORE THAN I CAN GET IN A SAVINGS ACCOUNT WITH MOST PROVIDERS AND , OBVIOUSLY AS IT IS A CURRENT ACCOUNT, I HAVE COMPLETE ACCSS TO MY FUNDS AT THE DROP OF A MOUSE OR AT ATMS ETC.
