Retrospective Reduction in Cover

1
I had a Staysure annual travel insurance policy. During the term of the policy I added a new medical condition (back pain) online and Staysure charged me an additional premium and issued me with a new certificate. I declared on the online form that I was awaiting an injection for the back pain and the new certificate properly, and very clearly, acknowledged this. When I came to renew my policy I was told by Staysure that because I was awaiting an injection my existing policy was and had been invalid for ALL my declared health conditions from the date I updated may medical record. Very alarming given that I had travelled in the interim. They said this should have been clear in the online process. It was not. The new cover certificate, as issued by Staysure, made absolutely no mention of the fact that my cover did now not include ALL my pre existing conditions. I have now changed insurers to a company that is a Which recommended provider and is much more transparent with both their process and their cover. Avoid Staysure if you want to be certain of being covered. Reviewed on: 25th July 2024

Incompetent, ignorant, do not know their job. Avoid.

Wait until you have to make a claim. They use Davies who are badly trained, get everything wrong and are impossible to deal with to deal with. Very unimpressed. Told me they wouldn't pay back APD when I was only claiming a deposit back, told me there was no valid claim as the £200 deposit was 'within excess', used the wrong sort code when finally paying me my money back, having accepted that I did have a valid claim, left me holding on the phone for 22 minutes and then cut the call. 8 phone calls because of their incompetence. Unforgiveable errors. Employees need serious training on how to deal with customers and to learn their job. Reviewed on: 20th June 2024

I had a heart attack late November 2023,

I had a heart attack late November 2023, I was due to travel before Christmas 2023, Staysure just cancelled my yearly policy. Thus I had to shift the flight bookings I had at a cost of £380, Take out a new Travel Policy with another company costing £2054.76 a yearly policy then pay for a new travel booking of £780.00. I put a claim on for £380.00. And £2054.76. I expected them to pay £380.00 costs I incurred to shift flights plus pro rate the extra £2054.76.; The claim was handled by an external company called Davies the result is nothing. So I have to go back to Staysure and the best I can hope is a 5 month refund of my policy. Not good enough, Staysure hide behind the small print. A very very dishonest company. DO NOT TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE AS WHEN YOU NEED THEM THEY ARE NOT THERE. Reviewed on: 15th March 2024

Awful company

1
Robbing company with no regard for personal circumstances. Paid nearly £300 for a family policy. Rang to update policy with new information and they refused to give us the full refund, giving us only a very small amount of our money back. Rude, attitude riddled telephone consultants. Would strongly advise anyone to stay clear. Reviewed on: 21st December 2023

Stay clear of Staysure

1
Stay clear of stay sure! My wife and four young children were robbed on our dream holiday to France. We thought all would ok as we’d booked travel insurance with Staysure. Sadly, like most other travel insurance companies, they took our money and then when we made a small, fair claim they took forever to respond and in November (hols were in August), some company, Davies Group, who I guess staysure sub contract with, would of course found a clause so they wouldn’t pay out, perhaps no surprise, but another terrible travel insurance company. I’d advise all to stay clear. They have no empathy, understanding and always look at what they can find to cancel a claim rather than help the consumer. We were left in remote Brittany not able to find a police station and staysure where no help at all. We spent a lot of time researching for a good travel insurance company and now back to square one. Refused Cover on a Minor Women's Condition

1
I had an annual policy and I was due to go in for a hysteroscopy to remove a uterine polyp from my womb. This is normally a standard outpatient's procedure but due to it being too painful, I was booked in under General Anaesthetic as a day case. I was due to travel a week before this. I called up and apparently a hysteroscopy procedure is not on the list, nor is removal of an uterine polyp. When I tried to explain what I was having done, the girl on the phone was dismissive saying she'd have to accept my first answer which was a hysteroscopy procedure which was not on the list, neither was removal of a uterine polyp (is that because it only affects women?). This was absolutely ridiculous. I explained the procedure and she did not understand it, nor did she go through the list to find it as she would only accept my "first answer" despite alternative wording on medical lists between insurance companies and healthcare websites for the same procedure! She then said I was now going to have NO COVER on ALL previous conditions (which I had declared and paid for when taking out the policy), even though none of them were connected to a uterine polyp (eg eczema). She said she doesn't know about medical conditions and she could not refer me to anyone who does because apparently there is nobody at the company who could discuss this with me. I was offered the option of a pro-rata refund which came up with the amount of zero even though I paid £54 and still had half a year left to run. I also find it fishy that they do not allow reviews on their facebook page and I cannot find a link to review them on google. I also see that most of the "positive" reviews on here are from people who just bought a policy and did not make a claim or have to call up with a new medical condition. Only at that point, can a travel insurance company be judged on their honesty and service. I found alternative insurance before my trip with another company who had "removal of uterine polyp" on their list of medical conditions and even though I was awaiting the procedure, it was no problem and my other declared conditions were covered. Now that I have had my surgery (a very quick day case), I will make a formal complaint. Reviewed on: 7th November 2023
