Review of the Tesco Bank, Car insurance:

Don't do it!

1
Don't do it! I chose them as best value for money when looking at different providers in August 2024. Then a tree came down in Storm Darrah yesterday, it fell on the car in my driveway. No-one was in the car. Luckily it didn't have full weight of the tree on the car as a wall was in the way, but there are dents in the roof and on the bonnet. Purely cosmetic - I can drive it to the garage, all the doors open fine. I filled in the claim form online, and took over an hour, and on the last page received instant notice that it's my fault, a total loss and I don't get a courtesy car. The car is perfectly fine. But a form tells me that it's a total loss? No ones come to assess it? This is criminal -You can't provide a service and assess something as written off if it's in your best interest and are financially motivated to do so. I assume you've done this because prices to fix cosmetic damage with the garage have gone up because of inflation. Its outrageous! The car cost me 10,000 last year second hand, this year it will be the same to re-buy, but I'll be lucky to get 3,000 from Tesco, just because it costs around that to get it fixed. I've now been on hold for 22 minutes trying to get an explanation... Just spoken to a woman who said will take 2 weeks to get an engineer out and not entitled to courtesy car while we wait for Tesco to assess the damage only if its in repair. Apparently that was an optional extra to pick when I signed up but I'm the stupid woman who didn't pick it. In summary: When a storm hits the UK, and a tree falls on your car while its parked on your driveway, it's your fault, and if your so lucky that it only scratches and dents the roof, it's a total loss, and good luck buying a car with the scraps they want to pay you. Cheap Hucksters

1
Quoted renewal to me at £361.92. Via Compare the Market I got it from them for £192.76! Then tried to threaten me that I need to place the renewal via them otherwise they wouldn't pass 'their' NCD to themselves! This year I'm going elsewhere - it will cost a few quid more with Hastings, but fancy making a claim with such a bunch of shysters as Tesco - no way! Reviewed on: 15th February 2021

Robbing b***ards

1
Absolute robbing b***ards they are!! I have been with them for 4 years now, first 3 years were okay, except my policy kept going up for no reason, and they refused to give me one. This year, I went over my miles(I always have done and this has never been an issue before), they then started charging me per mile i drive, I live up north and tend to drive down south a lot, WHO THE HELL CAN AFFORD THAT?!!! Last month, I topped up my miles by 500, 2 weeks later they are threatening to cancel my policy unless I pay them £200, because they said I am -2000 miles. We have been in lockdown, how the hell could I have driven 2000 miles in two weeks, IN A LOCKDOWN?!!! Not a chance, I even added up my miles to prove it, and I hadn't driven that all. They told me to send them a picture of my miles clock, so they can compare, no doubt they'll tell me I'm wrong when they eventually get back to me. Even though I have worked it out myself. And to top it all off, at the start of them saying I'd have to start paying for my miles like this, I asked if I could cancel my policy, they said it would cost me £330, so either way, they have screwed me over financially. Also, this year, somebody hit my car, so I claimed on their insurance(not mine), my car was written off through no fault of my own, when I got a new car, they still had the cheek to charge me a change of car fee, even though I explained the situation. Absolute joke they are, they have seriously screwed me over financially this year, and as soon as my policies over I'm out, disgrace they are. Please don't even think about going with them!! Pathetic

1
I totally agree with all the negative reviews and its pretty clear that all the positive reviews are written by staff covering their backs , not genuine customers for sure . I was wondering why the underwriters ( or in this case undertakers ) allow such an inept setup to operate in their name, but then as stated, they have , " thousands and thousands of customers . " No doubt blindly thinking they are in good hands. Happy New year everyone. Reviewed on: 31st December 2020

DANGEROUS AND BROKEN COMPANY

1
They asked for proof of no claims discount, so I sent proof, they then sent me an email with three different none specific options ! I sent another form of proof of my discount and phoned them to see if it was acceptable, this was in lockdown period and they didn't pick up. I received an email off them saying my cover was cancelled, but I never read that email on the day, so I was driving around for 24 hrs. without cover. I phoned and spoke to a lady team leader, I asked her why they never phoned me to talk about the problem, her reply was, "We have thousands and thousands of customer, far too many to phone. " I asked he to look into the problem and she said she would and phone me in four days time, she never did. As you can see they are pathetic . My advice is, DO NOT USE Reviewed on: 30th December 2020

Straightforward, quick experience

Had an accident where someone hopped a red light and crashed into the back of my car. Explained the situation to the helpful and friendly Geordie lady down the phone, who was thorough in her details and made sure she had everything down. Later that day I already had a hire car and my car was picked up the following day, repaired by the body shop and returned within the week. Got a text a couple of weeks later saying the claim was all sorted and closed. The person had admitted fault so there was no contest, but still a pleasant and easy experience. Cheapest but poor service

1
My car insurance was cheapest compared to other providers HOWEVER after the first year renewal price DOUBLED for no reason (no claims or changes). BEWARE and make sure you cancel before it expires and find another company to insurance. Customer service was disgusting, they cancelled my insurance because they lost all the correct documentation I sent to them twice, citing I never sent them. This could had been resolved and I tried contacting them several times but said they couldn’t access my details on each occasion and “someone”would phone me back. They didn’t. Then cancelled insurance due to lack of documentation proof. This is the worst company I ve ever had to deal with but the quote was the cheapest. Had I known what I know now I wouldn’t have used them. It’s better to pay an extra £100 with another company than the distress of dealing with them. Reviewed on: 25th November 2020
