Absolutely shocking company. I wish I had read these bad reviews years before opening a credit card account with them... Do not even deserve 1 star as others have said. I was in an ongoing complaint about how I had no notification about owing them money. It was a year and 8 months later and I only found out then when there was interest and they had defaulted my account and passed a debt I didn’t know I had onto debt collectors who have been hounding me. After calling Tesco furious and in shock, I was told they tried to send letters to an address I wasn’t at and their process can’t email. How ridiculous that they would let their loyal customers feel like this and put them in a position of financial difficulty. I had to call back several times and was kept waiting and receiving letters from a debt collection service before my complaint had even been resolved!! They did not think to email me on the address held on file in all of that time and instead assumed I was ignoring them, defaulted my account (without me knowing), ruined my credit score and passed my details onto debt collectors! Incompetent staff and managers are none the wiser. I’ve never missed a payment in my life, nor am I irresponsible with my money. The lack of customer empathy and service was disgusting. I expected more from a big company like Tesco. If I had known I had this debt (I paid my last payment and put the credit card to the side - a unauthorised payment came out after without my knowledge) I would have been able to either pay it or query it immediately. However the effort was not made to contact me in an effective way after so long. The call handlers offered no resolution or understanding and I have had to go through a debt company with a damaged credit score because of their lack of service. Did not accept any responsibility or resolve my complaint. As a former employee for a big Successful financial company, I can tell you that this Tesco Bank is extremely poor.. from their policies, to their staff.. Staff need to be trained on people skills, their complaints policies need to be revised and improved and the company needs to read these reviews in order to improve their service otherwise they won’t last long.. Will be taking this to the Ombudsman service and FCA. As a loyal customer, I am absolutely appalled and disgusted by the service I have received today and will never use Tesco Bank again. Great if you're a clubcard point hoarder

I wanted a new credit card which gave me decent rewards - I always pay in full every month and to me it's a no brainer not to get a bit extra back. I was rejected by Santander 123 as my credit score wasn't good enough, so after a while I applied for tesco instead. The rate of return on points isn't brilliant but is better than nothing and I earn about 100 points per month. As tesco do a lot of boost deals this could be exchanged for up to three times the value - not bad. Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Normal credit card but can earns you extra Tesco points

I've been a customer of Tesco credit card for a while. Great card as long as you pay the balance off in full every month which is easy to do as you can set this up as a direct debt so you don't have to remember to do it manually. Card works fine and earns extra Tesco points on pretty much everything it is used for, even shopping for food at other supermarkets earns you points. I have had a few fraudulent uses of the card but Tesco cleared this up very quickly. Overall it works well but just pay off the balance in full every month to avoid charges. Great credit card

This was a great credit card for us - it had a good deal for 0% interest on purchases, and you could earn Clubcard points for your spending. It worked well when using it to purchase an expensive item, and we managed to pay it all off before the deal on interest ran out. Good stuff! Reviewed on: 26th August 2015

Good customer service but they're a bit behind in technology

I have a clubcard Credit Card with Tesco. The first thing is that the clubcard rewards points you get with this are great, and the interest is low. The only issue I have with them is that, if you want to lower/increase your credit or make minor changes to your account, you have to call them, there is no option on their website to do this yourself. As their number does charge, I really think they need to do some work on their website to bring it in line with their competitors. Otherwise, excellent card that I'd recommend! This wanted to know too many financial details, making it difficult to apply

I wanted to apply for a credit card, but was put off by the amount of questions Tesco were asking about financial details. This put me off because I thought there was a greater chance of being rejected and thus have a negative impact on my credit rating. Reviewed on: 7th May 2015

Excellent service from the fraud team

Tesco's fraud team were quick to pick up an attempted fraud on our card. Stopped the transactions, cancelled the card, contacted us to let us know and issued a new card all within 12 hours. Really happy to know that they are there keeping an eye on our accounts. Reviewed on: 6th May 2015

Unhelpful and patronising customer services

I recently lost my job and contacted Tesco to see what my options were re: my credit card debt with them. They could not have been less helpful. Their solution to my problem was to give me the option of an increased interest rate, or to close my account. Needless to say, I chose the latter! Won’t be banking with Tesco EVER again. Great card with benefits

I initially signed up for the Tesco credit card to take advantage of the 12 mths interest free period for both balance transfer and purchases. The application was quick and simple and the balance transfer was completed quickly and smoothly. I've dealt with everything online and this is easy to access the only gripe with this is every time i clear my internet history it no longer recognises my computer and i have to wait for a text for an access code; not a huge hassle but can be frustrating.
