Review of the TSB, Classic account (discontinued):

TSB closed out account after 10 years of blemish free use without reason

1
After being with TSB for over 10 years. Always in credit, always pay CC in full we received a letter today saying they were closing our checking account down with no reason or justification. I spent over an hour on the phone (Chargeable rate) and no one can explain why our account is being closed. The letter referred to 2 accounts. One is a savings account hat we no longer use so I could accept that decision as their T&Cs state account has to be used. However the current account is used to pay bills every month and receivews our salaries every month. We never go over drawn. So I thought there must be a mistake. Unfortunately no one at TSB could explain why the account was closed. Without an explainatioin your mind is left to ponder what they made their decision on. Fraudulant activity, financial misrepresentation... the list goes on. Eventually I had to raise a complaint but I was told it would make no difference as it would not change anything. I was told I could use the complaint reference to raise the issue with the ombudsman. However I did eventually persuade a manager there to enquire by email to the Account closures team to raise this matter. I am hoping this is a mistake. A repeat of a similar one we were subject to a couple of months ago. Again a letter out of the blue asking us to verify account details, but the letter referred to an account number that we did not recognise. So we thought it was phishing and ignored it. Eventually we discovered it wasn't and that TSB had made a mistake with the account number. £50 compensation paid. And this earlier mistake is the reason why I think the current account closure is also a mistake. The issue is we have Direct debits and standing orders tied into our current account. It would mean work on our part to act on the letter at face value. But not being able to speak to someone and being told raising a complaint would not change anything is totally unacceptable. Additionally my wife and I both received a letter. But they addressed my wife as Mr ( She wasn't happy) I hope TSB read this review and launch an internal investigation. I attach a screenshot of the letter so you can see the type of curt correspondence you get from the TSB. My advice for anyone wanting to join TSB is stay well away. Reviewed on: 15th November 2023

TSB Fraud Refund Guarantee is SCAM

1
I have been Scammed by the broker on 20000 pounds And TSB didn't refund me anything just childish excuses that it was my fault but I have clear evidence and all proof that it wasn't. Waited 3 months but it was just wasted time of the investigation didn't move any forward. Moving to another bank as this one is just rubbish. Reviewed on: 3rd June 2021

Gross Incompetence

This bank should cease to operate. For months now they have had a permanent intermittent issue with Internet banking. First they tell you not to use Safari and try another browser. If that doesn’t work, they tell you to type in the address instead of using the search facility. If that doesn’t work, they tell you to clear history. After that they tell you to use another device. Thereafter the robots purporting to be humans are out of ideas as they have run out of script. Instead of taking the customer through a plethora of temporary solutions, would it not be an idea to get to the root of the problem to fix it. Currently, it’s like being in an abusive relationship where the abuser seeks to pacify the abused with measures that don’t address the root issue of the abuse. These cretins opened a business account on 14/4. They still haven’t sent me a PIN for my debit card (the first one was invisible). They haven’t sent a sort code and account number and internet banking is temperamental so I cannot see my sort code or account number via that method. Going to the branch is out of question. They close my local branch early and I don’t fancy standing in the wind and rain for an hour like subservient cattle, only to end up speaking with a cretin or a robot purporting to be a human being. Appalling bank, your money isn't safe

My partner has some mental health issues that prevent him from communicating clearly with people who don't know him, but what happened with tsb was just shocking. Following the loss of his bank card, it was used several times for contactless transactions before he realized and called the bank. There were unauthorised transactions totalling £122.00 and some change, and he was transferred to the fraud team. 60 minutes on hold, the advisor asked him the nature of his call, and he said to block his card, so she transferred him back, and he waited another 45 minutes to be told he should have been dealt with by the fraud team and then transferred a third time!! I took the phone off him at this stage, and explained that he has blocked the card with the first advisor obviously, who has put him through to discuss the charges made during the time his card was missing. He explained that he used it the night before and was driven home by my carer, so he was unsure if the card was dropped in the car, or at some point later. He was advised that because it was used by someone he knows (this was never suggested or determined) a separate team needed to investigate and it would take 48 hours.... 5 days later he had to call them as he had not been called as promised, and was told that the bank would not refund the unauthorised payments...no ifs buts or coconuts just a point blank no help from tsb!! He then asked can he please have a card without the contactless capability and was told that wasn't an option!!! What the *$#@! They wont insure you against the use of the facility in the event of a loss but you can't choose to get a more secure card?! Surely that isn't right?! Since when do banks refuse to refund unauthorised contactless transactions anyway,I've never had a problem with my own bank in this situation, they were rude to him and point blank told him too bad, your problem not ours. He can't afford to throw away a hundred quid just like that...I am absolutely disgusted by their don't care attitude Reviewed on: 25th April 2021

I’ve had an issue with my debit card, it took so long to be resolved. However, the support I got from both branch and customer service teams were excellent. I am pretty satisfied overall. Reviewed on: 16th April 2021
