Brilliant if you don't need a branch

Never had any issues, no long queues when I've rung and they give a £250 interest free overdraft. They have been fantastic and very helpful on the odd occasion I have had to ring and the staff are always lovely and friendly. Reviewed on: 13th February 2016

Top notch customer service

Not updated enough. No "available balance" shown so can go overdrawn easily

The 1st Account doesn't show an available balance which shows how much money you have available to spend once they have taken into account recent spends or pending direct debits. This means that your balance is almost never correct, and means that you can easily go overdrawn. For example, I had £XX amount in my bank and spent £500. For the next 3 working day (until the £500 left my bank and settled) my bank balance shows the original amount without the £500 deducted. Reviewed on: 12th February 2016

Through thick and thin

I had never planned to stay with First Direct for long. I switched to them because of their offer, got some cash and thought I'd leave half a year later and get some more cash for that. But to be honest, after nine months with this bank I can't imagine being with any other. The customer service is excellent, there are no long queues on the phone, no call centres abroad (judging from the thick Scottish accent I was greeted by during my last call) and instead a whole lot of service and friendliness. Yesterday, someone used my card to purchase drone supplies in the US. No idea how they got my card details. First direct noticed, contacted me immediately, and got my money back.
