Started great, went downhill

I held Hastings Premier car insurance for around four years. Initially it was great and an effective method for me. However, when it came to changing my car they did make it very difficult to get an effective quote and to access information about my current policy. When it came to renewing for my fifth year, despite being assured of a significant discount they offered me £1.50 less per month on what was already an effective policy. Even the customer services man agreed it was expensive and I would probably do better elsewhere! Reviewed on: 20th July 2017

Poor customer service

When attempting to contact Hastings as my policy had gone up £20 per month I had to call several times having waited lengthy amounts of time trying to get through. When I raised this with the member of staff my concerns were dismissed. I feel this did not promote good customer relations. Reviewed on: 20th July 2017

Just in the nick of time

I moved back to the Uk in February this year and needed a car for work. as I did not have internet connected straight away I had to get my car insurance over the phone. I found it difficult to find the telephone number for Hastings direct in the telephone directory, I eventually got a friend to look the number up for me, however once through to the company I found them very helpful and they even phoned me back as my credit on my phone was running low. I am happy with the price and cover given, fortunately I have not had to call on them yet, but overall I am pleased with the cover and service Reviewed on: 18th July 2017

Hastings Direct promise great rates, great customer service and ongoing support with your policy. Unfortunately they don't deliver even with their high prices. I have had issues with renewal which took me over two weeks to sort. A company to avoid at all costs. Reviewed on: 15th July 2017

Dealt with quickly and easily

When my car insurance policy was up for renewal, Hastings Direct sent me my renewal quote. I went onto a comparison site to check what other quotes I could get and found they were much cheaper. I called Hastings customer services and told them how cheap the other quotes were, and complained about my higher renewal quote. They apologised profusely and said they would be able to give me a cheaper renewal if I would consider staying with them. Reviewed on: 9th July 2017

Failing to respond

They never answer my calls, and when I had an accident that wasn't my fault, they ignored paperwork meaning I couldn't claim. Reviewed on: 8th July 2017

Car insurance

I pay extra for add ons to my insurance such as roadside recovery and recently they've reduced how far away from home I can be for that recovery so I'm not too impressed by that. However, my renewal paperwork came through the post and they wanted to charge me an extra £200 per year despite me having 4 years no claims and 2 of those years being with Hastings. So I called in and they managed to get my premium price down by £500 per year. Safe to say I decided to stay with them for a 3rd year. Their customer service is good although due to high volumes of calls the length of time you can be waiting to speak to an advisor can be quite long on occasions. Reviewed on: 8th July 2017
