Review of the Homeprotect, Home insurance:

Paid £1300 insurance and not covered

1
I paid my full annual insurance of £1300 on the 28th June, 2023. When my documents didn't come through a week later I contacted them and they said that they had no record of my payment but that there finance department would be in touch. After a further week there was no correspondence and my home was not insured. I phoned them again. They said I had two option. First to repay the £1300 or secondly they would send an email to finance and hope they picked it up soon. I put a complaint forward which was upheld and the case was closed. They said that they would honour any claim I made but still no documents sent to me. The following day I got an email saying that I wasn't insured because they hadn't had any payment. I'm back on the phone now and they are saying they have received my payment and I will be insured, but they cannot send me my documents for 30 days. I have demanded to speak to a manager. Its not good enough! Reviewed on: 11th July 2023

Great if you run a business from home

It can be hard to find an insurance provider which will cover you if you run a business from home which involves the public coming to your house. Homeprotect are perfect in this situation. Reviewed on: 11th December 2025

An excellent service from Homeprotect

We have received a good service from Homeprotect: we were pleased that we were able to renew at a lower cost than the previous year. Reviewed on: 11th December 2025

Really friendly and efficient customer care

Really friendly and efficient customer care on your helpline. I rang several times to update my renewal this year and received consistently excellent service. Also Hoeprotect offers good value on a homeworking policy which I need for my business. Reviewed on: 8th December 2025

Shockingly poor

1
I have never reviewed a home insurer before, but our experience with Homeprotect has been extremely disappointing. We have 15 years of no-claims history and took out this policy in complete good faith. Before purchasing the policy, at the point of exchanging contracts, I phoned Homeprotect to confirm how to disclose historic underpinning from 25 years ago. I was told it was not relevant as it fell outside their 10-year window. We also commissioned a RICS Level 3 survey, which confirmed the house was typical for its age, showed a minor thermal-expansion crack in the DPC, and found no evidence of active subsidence. We relied on this when answering their questions. In July 2025, after unusually hot weather, we noticed some new cracking and reported it immediately. Homeprotect appointed their own surveyor. After their visit in August, we heard nothing for months—no clarification, no follow-up, no indication that our cover was at risk. We eventually had to lodge a complaint just to move the process forward. Then on 27 November 2025, we received a letter stating our policy had been voided from inception, with no prior notice. This was the first and only communication on the matter. There was no chance to answer questions, provide evidence, or understand how this decision had been reached. We were left instantly uninsured, which is deeply distressing and contrary to the spirit of FCA rules around fair treatment and reasonable notice. We acted entirely in good faith, disclosed everything, relied on a detailed survey, reported issues promptly and cooperated fully. Yet the policy was voided months later without warning. This has serious implications for future insurability through no fault of our own. We are now entering a formal complaint process and likely escalation to the Financial Ombudsman. Based on our experience of poor communication, lack of transparency and disproportionate decision-making, I would strongly caution anyone considering Homeprotect. Reviewed on: 7th December 2025

Excellent value

I was trying to find a honest and reliable insurer and after trawling what seemed like thousands i came upon home protect. For me the deciding factor was firstly the fact the would insure my bungalow with type of roof I have, it's pent so slight incline not totally flat and not tile, I had a nightmare trying to find someone who would insure and not rip me off in the meantime. Secondly well it was the.price, such good value and this year my premium went down. So yes i can totally recommend Home Protect, I haven't had to.claim yet but it's nice to know a decent insurer is there if needed. Reviewed on: 26th November 2025
