Online and Physical Bill errors amount.

3
My first problem with them was when i was checking my fees for the use of my Credit Card online and see a right amount but a couple days later i received the monthly bill by them and see a weird fees for some card operations, immediately call customer support and after some minutes they said it was a delay problems and it should be fixed in a moment. He was right it was fixed almost instantly but friends of mine told me that they had the same issue and they did not notice at all and pay the error amount so you should definitely be aware of your card's bill. Quick service

Changing from a current account to an Advanced account was quick and simple thanks to the staff who walked me through what was needed. Reviewed on: 31st August 2016

Higher fees, but customer care above average

3
First things first - HSBC has generally higher fees for unusual transactions via credit card. I paid quite a lot for ATM withdrawal (admitting it is not the way you should be using your credit card). However, their support is great. I contacted their customer care twice and it was amazing experience every time. Problems solved and explained - a great example for other banks. HSBC have given me a bad credit rating from there incorrect advise. Also: Misleading, Breaching data protection, Lies, False information given.

1
Misleading and incorrect information with web chat and 40 minute hold time. Footprint on my credit rating from incorrect advise. Sending all banking details to wrong address - DPA. Online system problems with only one answer – Going into a branch. Misleading and incorrect that my address was changed - after taking time off work to go into the branch! False information given when told payments where set up when they were not! Lied when said would contact me within 72 hours. (FCA guidelines) Once calling back after one week with no contact from HSBC after raising the complaint. I was told that they would be in contact within one week and 8 days on still no contact from HSBC – Lied. Reviewed on: 25th August 2016

HSBC Credit Card/Loans

1
I've been with HSBC for over 17 years. During a hardship period I asked to take out a loan to consolidate my credit card debt and to allow for a small buffer, knowing that my financial circumstances were improving within a matter of months. HSBC said I could have a loan at 29% APR, they would not offer me anything else. Considering my credit card APR is 21.9% this of course made no sense. Definitely a case of "gives an umbrella when it's sunny and takes it away when the rain comes". Very, very disappointed to find out that had I been a new customer (and not a loyal one for nearly two decades!) then I could have had a loan for 3.6%. Go figure! I also wanted to only borrow £3,000 - I was actively encouraged in branch to go for £7,000 upwards which "would bring the interest rate down", despite me pointing out I didn't want extra debt. Outcome - I went to a different bank, applied for a 0% card and moved the HSBC debt to their competitor. Reviewed on: 21st August 2016

HSBC are ok until you want to contact them

1
Extremely and unbelievably poor service. Found unauthorised payments being debited monthly from my card. After two extremely long phone calls to HSBC, was unable to speak to anyone with any knowledge whatsoever to help. Made third call to cancel card and have new one sent out. Had new bill today to find that some helpful person at HSBC had transferred the unauthorised monthly debit to the new card issued despite my previous calls. Phoned again today to cancel card completely; this they would not do until someone from HSBC called back. Still waiting........circus and clowns come to mind Reviewed on: 27th July 2016

Friendly efficient staff

Rang the telephone enquiries line regarding altering my credit limit. Had to wait for around 10 minutes to speak to an advisor but once I was connected I was dealt with promptly, efficiently and in a polite friendly manner. Reviewed on: 20th June 2016

No loyalty benefits

I have had an HSBC Gold credit card for about 20 years. During this time I've always paid the balance as soon as I made a payment so I have never paid any interest on it. I used it mainly for over the phone purchases or high value spends like holidays. Despite being a loyal customer for so long I had never been offered any added incentives to use the card - no points, cashback or discounts for anything. For this reason I now prefer to use my Nationwide credit card and only use the HSBC one occasionally to avoid paying the non-usage fee. It has the highest credit limit of my three cards so I have maianly kept the account in case I need it in an emergency. I have no complaints about it though and as it is linked to my current account it is easy to check my balance when I do spend on it. Reviewed on: 20th June 2016

Can't see why people choose these

Credit card rates are all pretty similar. I got my credit card with HSBC as I have my bank account with them, but don't use it anymore as there are better cards out there - ones that offer good benefits like cashback or points for airlines...look around. Reviewed on: 20th July 2015

I have had no problems with HSBC.

I have a credit card account with HSBC for Best Buy store credit card. While I have nothing exceptional to say because I have not had any issues, but I have no complaints either. I have been pleased with the card so far, no issues is a good thing! Reviewed on: 17th April 2015
