Review of the John Lewis, Partnership credit card:

Why change to New Day and lose credibility?

1
Had a partnership card for over 30 years, always smoothly. Now New Day are involved and I get a letter telling me my emails are not reaching me. Given log in puts me on a black screen with JOHNLEEISCREITCARD.COM in blood letters with links to credit cards that have nothing at all to do with John Lewis cards. Spelling wrong and looks like it’d been done by a hacker or a child. Lost all confidence cut up my card and rang New Day they are hopeless Reviewed on: 8th November 2022

Bitterly disappointed

1
We were accepted with the same credit limit for the Newday card and I can only sympathise with the loyal customers who are angered by being refused for no good reason. However, we now feel that being rejected would have been preferable. We’ve been stressed and embarrassed by having cards that only work sometimes. We’ve spent ages on the ‘phone to Newday and have been alarmed to receive fraud alerts when we’ve tried to make purchases and been declined. We’ve issued a complaint to Newday. I’ve shopped in JL and Waitrose practically since the last ice age. I opened the JL card as soon as it came out. I echo what everyone else has said about loyalty, anger and disappointment. There’s something else I’ve come to realise- I rely on my credit card, like my bank account, it provides security and confidence as I go about life. That has gone out of the window. We’re researching other credit card choices. Reviewed on: 2nd October 2022

Big Mistake by JL

1
Issuing a card went OK although limit was less than on JL's HSBC backed card. Used for about 3 weeks and then got a text to say balance to be paid in 10 days, a much shorter time than most cards. Also, they had ignored my request for a specific statement date despite asking me for one. On going into my account, I noticed that paper statements were not an option and they only stayed online for 6 months. Had monthly statements from previous card which suits me. Decided to ring them to get statement date changed and get clarification on a few things. None of the options were suitable and there were layers and layers of them. There seemed no way to actually speak to anyone. So, I decided to push the option to cancel my card, thinking that would trigger a response from a human. It didn’t! After telling me all the things I had to do if cancelling my card, it announced it had cancelled it! JL have gone from a flexible card with good customer service to one with a lesser time to pay, no flexibility and as good as no customer service. They will regret this move. new credit card problem

1
To entice people to switch to the new card offers like lots of extra points being added so I switched and ordered new carpet for our dining room. when asked to pay John Lewis, I tried to do so using the new card and it was rejected by John Lewis. Says a lot when a company rejects their own card! In the end I had to pay using the old one. Now I am trying to pay my balance owing and cannot find details of where and how to pay on line by BACS. I do not want to set up a direct debit or pay via some App on my phone. You have made a big mistake John Lewis switching to New Day. Otherwise shop customer service is great. Told to make payment to Amazon!!!

1
Received card ok but trying to pay on-line through my bank impossible. Finally managed to contact NewDay and was told that they deal with many companies and to enter 'Amazon' as the payee and it would be transferred to the correct account - because they haven't set up the John Lewis Partnership Card yet! Thank you Mohammed. They cannot be serious. Will be cancelling. Reviewed on: 1st October 2022

New Day inefficiency

1
Told my account had been accepted and cards had been issued. Two phone calls later when cards had not materialised, I find that my account has been cancelled in error and I can't reapply until 16th November!! I had problems when NewDay when they were the credit card provider for Debenhams. Doesn't look as though things have improved. Trying to speak to someone at NewDay is a nightmare. Echoing prev comments re reapplying for a JL card I tried complaining. Have just received a complaint denied letter, giving no reason for not being able to continue with a company I have used for over 20 yrs. Appallingly disappointed in JL's customer 'service'. Reviewed on: 30th September 2022

Unable to access the account on line

1
Received the card weeks ago, and have previously accessed my account without any problems. HOWEVER, over the last 24 hours I have been trying to sign into my account, but the PassCode boxes will not allow me to enter ANY characters! I do not want the app, but am computer savvy. I have tried different browsers, and have never experienced anything like this before, and cannot find anyway I can report this. ( you have ot log in to send a message !!- what a joke) Reviewed on: 30th September 2022

useless card

1
i've been a member/shopped with john lewis for over 35 years. the credit limit on the new card is a joke. actually an insult. i won't be getting a new one. and won't be shopping at JL or waitrose again. Reviewed on: 30th September 2022

Pointless card

1
After problems with the website on registering the new card, it worked in JL and Waitrose but was declined by a previously used online retailer. When I eventually got through to NewDay, I was initially told that it was the merchant refusing to accept the payment, even though the message on the screen whilst waiting for payment to go through was "declined by provider". Then I was told the merchant doesn't accept Mastercard, even though they've been accepting my previous JL card from HSBC which is a Mastercard. I was told to contact the merchant. Then NewDay say that the merchant doesn't have the necessary security in place to accept Mastercard. I've been a JL and Waitrose customer for more years than I care to remember and a card holder for many years without any issues. I've cancelled my NewDay card and cut it up. I'm so disappointed with the attitude of JL over this change and despite an email from them telling me they're sorry and hope I will continue to use them, I can't understand why they don't realise loyalty works both ways. Sorry but NewDay aren't fit for purpose. Reviewed on: 30th September 2022
