Worst Company Ever! Avoid if you are a first time buyer

My Partner and myself recently applied to Santander for a new mortgage on the help to buy scheme for new build properties. They gave us a promise that their is no problems whatsoever and we can proceed to find a new build property. after we have found the new-build, our dream house that ticketed all the boxes, we proceeded to complete the mortgage application. After an initial yes, and got all the other paperwork and solicitors and everything else in order, paid for the survey and all these things, they suddenly withdrawn the mortgage. just like that! It was not a affordability issue or a credit issue. after a lot of fighting with them we eventually find out that the underwrites had the wrong address history and they could not find us on the credit file and then declined it on that basis. The address was correctly given on the application paperwork. it is clear that someone in administration has made an error and typed 54 in stead of 45. Stander will not review or accept the appeal. "they sympathise with our situation and can clearly see that it was a innocent clerical error however we can not appeal the decision. Our decision is final and it is because of the incorrect address history" Even though it was their error, they refuse to take another look at his application. We also are not getting any money back. WE have lost £1000's in fees both with the solicitors and the builders that we are not getting back, and we have lost our house because the builders does not want to wait for a new mortgage application being done with a new lender. Because the computer is saying "no" because the computer was given inaccurate information Santander says NO. Even-though they have acknowledge that there was an error, they still say no. Never in my Life have I dealt with an company that was so in-human and bullying as Santander. I am at a loss for words to the this. If you are a first time buyer, please avoid like the plague, they will cost you a lot of money that you may not have and will take you years to save up again. Do not bother with Santander

I am an existing mortgage customer with Santander, switched over from another bank. I regret the decision so much! Currently on the phone still waiting to be connected. The first time I called, it just disconnected after 15 minutes randomly, my second call-in took another 15 minutes for someone to pick up and the person who answered was so abrasive, eventually got through to someone else who was more pleasant to deal with but couldn't help me. Asked to call me back, within 3 days, and as usual no direct line to call my mortgage advisor. Just really bad service, I expect more and cannot wait to change banks. Reviewed on: 3rd September 2021

About to move my mortgage from these awfull customer service rude been with them 25 years was OK when Abbey but santander gone from bad to terrible rang to pay my mortgage also wanted to know my exact payment and rate because I cudnt tell them first they refused to speak to me although I had confirmed my name address account nu. Ver date of birth so if they can't tell me my monthly payment or go any further they won't be getting paid this month useless customer service very annoyed yorkshire bank much better and helpfull who my family are with none of this crap with them Reviewed on: 26th August 2021

Avoid avoid. Unprofessional management team

Avoid avoid..wrong information and they just drag you. Delay process and very slow and unprofessional. Whole management teams need to be changed. 4 different mortgage amount with 4 different manager in 2 months. They don't even trust each other. Rubbish bank. Took us 2 months and disappointed. At the end we moved to barclays and all process done with less rate interest in only 1 week. Please avoid this bank. I wish I could rate them minus. So stressful and made me mentally ill. Most incompetent, poor customer service, non existent communication

We were trying to reduce our our bills and sell purvhome to move into a much cheaper house to improve our living standard. The would have reduced our overall lending but Santander has been challenging every possible reason thinkable. The points that our equity will pay most of our new home seems to be disregarded and Santander seems to prefer us being tied in the current situation rather than approving the much less risky option for us. Delay after delay, we are at the end of our strength and are still waiting weeks after providing all the requested evidence If this should not work out, Santander will lose a customer of fifteen years and we will never want to have any dealings with them. . Awful - just awful

Buyer of our property received a mortgage offer and then 2 days before completion Santander decided to rescind the offer. They already had all the info - just changed their mind. Who does that?!!!? Utter s1 hte. Reviewed on: 19th July 2021

Stressful and Delayed Mortgage Process!!

Took 7 weeks to complete my mortgage application. It took one week for them to book me an appointment with a Mortgage Advisor. Then it took another 2 weeks as they kept asking for more and more documentation. Each time I would submit a document, it went back in the queue to be reviewed by their validation team. Then my application goes to the Head Office for further checks. This takes another 2 weeks (and every time I called for an update they would say they cannot escalate as they cannot contact the Head Office). Then the Head Office asks for additional documents! I submit the documents immediately and it of course goes back into the queue to be validated. Finally my application goes to the underwriters, I call continuously, speaking to the sales department, my mortgage advisor and then the complaints department, literally pestering them until they progress the application to the next stage - that is to the Mortgage Centre that organise the valuation. The Mortgage Centre only book a valuation for 5 days later, when I call to escalate this, the process to get anything escalated itself takes 15 working hours.. My mortgage offer only comes through 2 days before completion date. Reviewed on: 8th July 2021

Awful!!!

THE worst mortgage lenders I have experienced. Their customer service is non existent and constantly ignore emails and calls. I was warned about using Santander by family and colleagues and I wish I had listened. After almost 7 weeks into the purchase of a house they refused to provide answers in relation to the mortgage offer which resulted in our offer on the property being rejected as the sellers became impatient, understatedly!! If I had the option to give no stars, I would. Will never use their services for anything. Reviewed on: 14th June 2021

FCA should investigate them

Santander are the most incompetent mortgage lender ever. They should have their licence revoked. I will never use them again. Massive delays as they request further information after a 7 working day turnaround. What is the matter with these people. Obviously being run by an exceptionally poor management team. I don't know where to begin from, this bank broke me. Run away from them, do not apply for a mortgage with this bank. Their attitude and professionalism is scandalous! FCA should investigate this bank for not treating customers fairly. Reviewed on: 8th June 2021
