I would give it to 0 if I could. The experience is extremely awful, they are not professional at all. THEY DO NOT BOTHER TO CHECK YOR DOCUMENT AND JUST KEPT BOUNCING BACK AND SAID YOUR DOCUMENT IS NOT acceptable! Their employees do not even know how to check sharecode, just inform client and stated that the share code isn't working. Reviewed on: 6th November 2024

8 months pregnant left with no bank card for nearly a month.

New card was ordered due to fraud activity on my account, santander did nothing to help me reclaim the funds. I did get a refund from the company myself and resolved it, no thanks to this bank. On top of this a new card was issued on the 2nd jan with a time scale of 4 to 5 working days. It's the 18th jan and it still has not shown up. I've called them on 3 separate occasions spending over 2 hours on calls so far. 2 complaints have been raise the initial complaint handler Charlie was by far the worst, 2nd handler Beth wasnt much better. I'm waiting on her call back but this is the 3rd time I've been told I'd get a call back this month never to receive one. My situation is I'm over 8 months pregnant without card details I cant even pay for my phone meaning I cant make calls to my midwife or hospital in an emergency situation and given my due date is fast approaching I'm now getting terrified. The time, stress, inconveniences inability to help or take ownership have been appalling I reported this to the financial ombudsmen on Sunday. Today (18 jan) another card was ordered I was told initially 4 to 5 days again then I demanded the expected arrival date that the call centre staff see on their screen I was told the 27th Jan!!! Almost 1 month without a bank card at this stage. As soon as I've had my baby and covid lockdown is lifted I will be joining a more reputable bank. To anyone considering an account with these guys I'd look elsewhere they have left me in a horrible stressful situation. This has been reported to the financial ombudsmen on Sunday so they can investigate this bank and how they treat customers. Reviewed on: 18th January 2021

Dont waste your time - agreed and then refused.

We submitted our mortgage application 10 weeks ago and are at the point of exchange. Santander have asked question after question, which we had immediately answered and filled in every form they asked us to, but each re-submission takes 7+ working days for them to assess. Don't know why they are unable to ask all additional questions in one go? I have a LTD company with full accounts and my husband is PAYE. I was starting to worry 3 weeks ago (still waiting for the offer) after reading the reviews on this site, however, my broker managed to contact them and they provided an offer via email, which we were happy with. 3 weeks later, they have now refused to offer and have left us in an awful situation, where we are likely to lose the house we are buying. I wish they had been upfront with us, as we would never have wasted our time. Santander have been the only stressful part of our move process and we should never have applied to them, despite what our broker advised. We are devastated now and will have to try to pick up the pieces with another lender. However, who knows if we'll be able to do it in time.... Reviewed on: 30th December 2020

First time buyers - agreed a mortgage then took it away from us.

My partner and I were extremely happy in November when we had the great news that our mortgage application had been accepted and we can carry on the process of buying our first home (which we had found) We needed to reduce our mortgage by £5K due to an agreement with the seller of our property to which Santander “with drew” our mortgage. Their reason being that we are now in a Tier 4 area (COVID-19) and by looking at our occupations they can see that my partner is currently not working due to the pandemic and they cannot risk giving us a mortgage. How heartless can these people be... no wrong doing of us.. taking away people’s dreams due to a pandemic. Disgusting. Never use this company. Go with another bank who don’t punish you due to a pandemic out of your control. We had a mortgage agreed with an expiry of March 2021 how can a company just take that away from you when you are asking for less than originally agreed. Reviewed on: 29th December 2020

Will waste your time use a decent Broker

After providing everything they requested and having previously never been rejected for any other mortgage provider Santander was the first had me waiting for weeks then to gave a lame excuse never again so many bad reviews for a reason!!! Reviewed on: 22nd December 2020

Disappointed and let down

applied for a mortgage on 23rd September through a broker, amout of £167k with 15% deposit 8 weeks of waiting they kept asking for documents after documents after documents! Then I’m informed they cant lend as in 2018 I moved from sole trader to limited company (doing the same thing) and can’t guarantee my income from history. Its most frustrating that for mortgage/borrowing purposes that lenders struggle with a change of trading entity. 8 weeks wasted jumping through hoops. Appalling service. i applied for a mortgage on 18th August through a broker, the affordability was all good , a amout of £167k . After 4 weeks of waiting they kept asking for documents after documents! Then suddenly the affordability dropped from 167k to 108k !!! Made no logical sense !!! Il say dont put yourself through this stress ! Not worth it Reviewed on: 4th October 2020

Never use this organisation

Unbelievable customer experience over 1. 5yrs off living hell trying to deal with our mortgage, maybe just maybe if staff would take time to do the basics like reading the computer screen in front of them it just might help them understand the consequences of there actions, but no they don't, any agreements made with advisers will not even be followed by Santander, the staff just can't follow through, you will be lied to on multiple occasions and they will transfer money without permission or authorisation in fact they go against policy and banking regulations and will expect you the customer to sort out there mess Reviewed on: 13th August 2020

Don't honour deals

So I was planning to swap to Santander from RBS as part of th Business Banking Switch where switchers get £4000. I registered my interest and called up and went in store, they started the ball rolling with a phone application booked in. This never happened and I called to find out why, they weren't sure why it was missed and rearranged, them Coronavirus hit and it all grinded to a halt. Now things are calming down I re-registered my interest and once again called up and went in store, however this time I was told that they were not accepting new applications at that time due to coronavirus (this was at the time of my last message 20th June) This seemed reasonable and so I had been waiting to hear back that they are accepting applications again however I have now been informed by RBS that they have left the scheme and now I am now never allowed to apply for it. I called them again and they have said they won't honour it or an equivalent deal. Because I've spent so long trying to set up an account with them there are no banks in my area in the scheme anymore Reviewed on: 23rd July 2020
