I was a nervous wreck with debts piling up after being made redundant. Stepchange was recommended by a family member and it was the best thing I ever did. They talked me through everything and set up a manageable payment scheme. Reviewed on: 19th May 2024

Practical help with sympathy and understanding.

With great trepidation I made my first phone call to StepChange, to be offered not only effective practical help but sympathetic understanding. At no time was I made to feel stupid or irresponsible in any way, and every effort was made to work out a solution that was financially viable for me. StepChange came to acceptable agreements with all my creditors, relieving me of the necessity of continual individual communications with them. This was obviously a tremendous relief. Since then my finances are reviewed annually by StepChange with payment changes made where necessary, all the time making sure they are completely manageable. After several years the amounts owing have greatly reduced, and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Admitting I had a problem was the hard part

When my bank put me in touch with StepChange, I was terrified of both admitting that I had a problem and having to ask for help. I needn't have worried because everyone was kind and understanding. I haven't looked back since that day. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

Step Change saved me!

As I've said before, you stopped me from hitting rock bottom. Step Change saved me from certain bankruptcy and I'm now slowly getting back on my feet. I can budget for the taxman's share, as well as everyone else. Without this help, I would be in dire straits. Reviewed on: 23rd May 2025

We wasn’t in a very good position with our finances...

We wasn’t in a very good position with our finances when my husband had to finish work on ill health. We didn’t know what to do, we got in touch with our creditors but because we hadn’t got behind with our payments they weren’t very helpful. We phoned stepchange and from that day we felt that a weight had been lifted. They contacted all our creditors and arranged a token payment. Stepchange is a life changer. It brings things down to earth and gives you the confidence to cope. The lovely people on the end of the phone are non judgmental and very supportive. No matter who or what , from time to time we all need some sort of help. I have recommended Stepchange to a number of people who were financially struggling.
