Review of the Swinton Insurance, Car insurance:

If I could give them ZERO I would

1
I have used Swinton on and off for the past 25 years so was happy to take car insurance with them in November 2023. In July 2024 we moved house and as you do started notifying change of address. So I dutifully did with Swinton. That's when the nightmare began. Spoke to Toby and explained I needed to change the address only on my motor policy. So he asked all the relevant questions and said he needed to submit it to the underwriters to see if there would be a increase in the premium. He came back and mumbled something about a rejection code as the area was unacceptable. I asked him what he meant by that and he couldn't answer. Now the area I moved to has high end value houses in a semi rural location, certainly not a crime hotspot! He put me on to Lindi who just kept stating the area was unacceptable but I can cancel this policy and they would put me with a new company. Why, I asked? Please tell me why this area is unacceptable? She just kept saying the insurance company stated it was not an acceptable area. I asked her to verify who the insurance company was. AGEAS came the reply. I was stunned. We have a second car, insured by my wife, and she successfully changed the address the day before with no additional premium. It is insured through AGEAS!! Her reply was genuinely incoherent by which time my wife had entered the room curious why I was on the phone so long and started listening to the what was happening. I asked to speak to a supervisor for an explanation. I got Karen. I explained what had happened and wanted an explanation why two people living at the same address received such polar opposite responses. Again she appeared not to understand and stuck to the script of it being an unacceptable area. I recall saying regardless that my wife lives in the same house and that AGEAS accepted she is in an acceptable area (no additional premium) but Swinton say it's not. All she did was keep offering me a new policy with a different company or a cancellation of the policy. I asked for quotes for a new policy with a different insurance company, however her eventual reply was that none would insure me. As my wife was simultaneously obtaining quotations from a comparison website this was obviously another blatant lie. I believe this is the procedure when a customer won't change to another company to build Swinton's revenue stream. They get booted. Needless to say the policy with Swinton is now cancelled. I urge everyone to avoid this company at all costs. I dread to think what may have happened if I had ever had to make a claim through Swinton. Reviewed on: 5th July 2024

They are the only company that I have com across that still require me to go to or post things to a branch to set up my insurance. They promised cash back that I had to chase and they renewed my policy when I had asked them not to. They would also only give me their best price if I talked to a woman on the phone. Absolute disgrace. Reviewed on: 20th July 2016

Are Swinton really scammers?

1
I filled in a request for quote online on a third party website to insure a work van for my own pest control firm. Swinton's sales person phoned me the next day among a flood of phone calls from their competitors. I let myself talked me into taking a policy with them. However all that Swinton was interested in was to receive payments. Swinton has never sent us a cover note, insurance schedule or terms and conditions of business with them. Swinton ommited to tell me they were going to use underwriters Ageas before signing a credit agreement. Later Swinton failed to deliver the service I have paid for and I had no other option but to cancel further payments to the scammers. Reviewed on: 15th June 2016

Agresive, unhelpful customer service

1
After looking for car insurance on comparison sites I decided to check out Swinton. The sales staff on the phone were helpful (or so I thorght at the time), and found me a good deal on my L200. Everything was fine, direct debt set up, no worrys. After the 2nd payment was taken I was taken I recieved a letter from Swinton saying my insurance had been canceled. The following month thay took out double the usual direct debit payment plus a "Cancelation fee". Puzzeled, I phoned customer service and asked 1. why had thay canceled, 2. why had thay taken double payment, 3. why I had to pay cancelation fee when thay canceled the policy. The custumer service staff was abusive saying it was my fault thay had to cancel the policy as an L200 was classed as a van. Since that was the same vehicle I insured I could not see the problem. Every month since I recieve another bill for unpaid account, even though the policy was canceled 6 months ago. Reviewed on: 8th September 2015
