Matured Bond

Encouraged to use online service. Used the service to give bond maturity instructions. Received an email confirming receipt. Maturity date came and went and nothing happened. Eventually spoke to a human who said that they hadn’t received instructions!! Assured me that it would be dealt with immediately. Nothing happened!! Sent two emails today and got an automated reply to say they were very busy!! Still awaiting return of my investment. I was initially going to re-invest but have lost all confidence in this institution - very unimpressed! Reviewed on: 6th June 2025

Excellent savings account

The website is straightforward and I have no trouble using it. In these times the Society are doing well to maintain interest rates at their current level -much appreciated. Reviewed on: 11th November 2020

Poor management

The manager I spoke to in customer services was rude and obnoxious, she was pretty much using a condescending tone throughout. Not how I expect to be treated after being a valued member who has been with the family for years. Reviewed on: 19th October 2020

A real Building Society in 2020

Clear website, windfall bond is a good offer

The windfall bond is a good offer, especially now interest rates are so low. My only issue with the website is that I have to enter my husband's details for every joint bond, which is tedious. It should be possible to store both names for a joint account. Reviewed on: 7th October 2020

Efficient and a great interest rate

Was looking for somewhere to move my savings from NS&I. Had never heard of the Family Building Society before but did some research and decided to invest in a 1 year fixed rate bond. My experience so far has been extremely positive with quick, efficient and friendly (despite being online) service. Would definitely recommend to other savers. Reviewed on: 1st October 2020

Information lacking

Four days after applying on line for a savings account we received a letter providing a verification code. On entering the verification code we were advised online that the account had still not beeen activated. We phoned the society, and after a 15 minute wait, despite being told we were next in the queue, we were told we had to have a stamped copy of a passport and a stamped copy of a bank statement. These could not be sent electronically but had to be posted. I would ask why was the additional information required not sent with the original verification code. If we had not phoned we would not have known further information was required. Reviewed on: 28th September 2020
