The staff both in branch and on the telepohne are very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. It would however, be a great advantage to be able to see your password as you type it so that you could spot errors and rectify them. It can be time consuming if you have made an error e.g. typed a capital letter by mistake but you do not know what the error is. The savings rates are however very competitive and hard to beat! Being senior citizens, it’s important to us to feel confident when saving in banks etc. so when someone recommended the Family Building Society and we lodged with them we have no absolutely no problem with all transactions involving several types of accounts. Reviewed on: 3rd October 2024

In the end I had to just admit defeat

Tempted by FBS’s Windfall Bonds, I decided to open the full five and deposit the £50k required. This is a process which has to be done online with the money deposited all in one go for each bond. To make things easier for myself I opted to open the five bonds and then transfer the money for all five rather than one at a time. That’s where the issues started. I could open one, I could open two. When I tried to open the third, it wouldn’t let me. So I closed the browser, tried again. Eventually I managed to open number three. I decided to leave the final two until the next day. The next day was more stressful than the day before. Every step of the application process was met with a request to sign in, only to be told on the next page I’d been signed out again for inactivity. Eventually i just gave up. If it’s that difficult to open an account I shudder to think of the issues that would arise depositing cash via their bank account or even trying to retrieve the funds at a later date. The rate may be tempting, however I fear the small extra amount is not worth the stress or worry. Reviewed on: 25th September 2024
