Review of the Admiral, Travel Insurance:

Policy covers nothing in effect

1
I thought that my buying insurance from a well known company that I would be covered. Wrong! My flight was cancelled and with no available flight for three days my travel company transferred my holiday to next year. As I was not aware that the flight was cancelled until I arrived at Gatwick airport Easyjet reimbursed a percentage of my travel home costs. I attempted to claim my travels costs for the journey to Gatwick airport from my travel insurance (which stated it covered travel expenses. First Admiral said that they would not pay out as Easyjet had sent an email informing me that the flight was cancelled. When I replied that the email was sent AFTER I had left home, and was well on my journey, and that even if we had turned around that I would still have had to pay the taxi driver - they replied that taxi fares are not covered by the policy! Never received such awful care.

Never received such awful care. I would not recommend this company to anybody. Had a one-off knee operation 2 days ago (which I did not claim anything for) and because I have had a surgery, they have now cancelled my entire insurance policy for the rest of the year, despite having no follow ups needed with the doctors and being deemed healthy now. I am so confused as to how an insurance policy can just cancel your policy because you have had a surgery. This is the second time I have been let down by this company, the first relating to them refusing to pay for my flights to Ecuador after the FCDO advised against all but essential travel to the area. I feel incredibly let down by the company. Reviewed on: 2nd July 2024

Admiral do not cover connecting flights

1
We had a cancelled internal flight at short notice, which meant that we missed the international flight home. Admiral do not cover connecting flights - even if you have worldwide cover!!! We attempted to claim for the additional costs but were told that we were not covered and are now significantly out of pocket. The insurance is at best misleading and at worst potentially fraudulent. Worldwide cover should mean worldwide, and not just the first flight out and the last flight back, and only in very specific circumstances. If you want connecting flights covered for not choose Admiral. Reviewed on: 2nd June 2024

***PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING***

1
Please be aware before buying travel insurance from Admiral! My husband was fit and well when I purchased annual travel cover. He was later diagnosed with prostrate cancer 11 weeks prior to our holiday. I rang to inform them, of the situation but not to raise a claim at that point and they cancelled his policy. So if you ever have health issues and require treatment, they will cancel the policy due to waiting time between diagnosis and treatment, which will always be the case. Surely that’s why you purchase travel insurance?? Reviewed on: 21st April 2024

We had a bag and some possessions stolen whilst on holiday and whilst this was traumatic enough, this was nothing compared to trying to make a claim. We submitted the information asked for in terms of summarising what was stolen and received a reply asking for receipts. We didn't have many of these but did have receipts for the cash stolen, other items we had for years and are not in the habit of keeping receipts in the off chance that items might be stolen at a later date whilst abroad. We received a phone call in December to discuss the claim and didn't hear back from them until I sent them a reminder by email. They then said could we provide photos of us with the items, again something we didn't have. They have now said they cannot replace the cash as it is not on the police report, although we gave them a copy of the report and they refuse to contact the Police for more information stating this is our job! Interestingly they will replace te other items, even though they are not on the Police report either - where is the consistency? When asked if we could complain we were told we can't and had to write to the same person who has made the decision! My advice is, if you are going to use Admiral, only take on holiday things which you have a receipt for and ensure you also take a photograph of each item before you pack it. Will never use these again, was refused a very small claim despite sending correct receipts etc , sneaky phone call from them asking loads of questions then saying sorry we are not paying it due to my replies! Go elsewhere and don’t waste your money with this company. I asked for the complaint procedure and it was ignored Reviewed on: 13th March 2024

Dreadful and shameful experience with Admiral.

1
Dreadful and shameful experience with Admiral. I got a years travel insurance cover with Admiral, and flew to Thailand for my 30th birthday, on the 2nd day my mother in law passed away unexpectedly. I submitted all the relevant documentation and filled out all the information on Admiral's portal, for them to come back and ask I have my MIL's GP fill out a medical form out our own expense, which wasn't a problem, the medical form asked for for detailed medical history which included routine checks from 6 months prior to her death stating there was no sign of her main cause of death. However on this form the GP also stated that back in 2007 it was noted that my MIL had an increased BMI. Admiral refused to pay my claim due to the increased BMI from 16 years ago, even though the form mentioned that 6 months prior there were no signs to be worried about. During this period (even though I complained to Admiral and asked them to stop) the company kept sending me letters and emails asking me to renew my policy. Reviewed on: 5th March 2024

Admiral Great - Until You Need to Claim

1
Always had a good experience with Admiral - until my first time ever trying to claim. My flight was cancelled and I had to buy another at the desk to get home within the next 72 hours. Assumed it was covered, and I believe the wording of the policy still confirms it should be, and Admiral agreed (in writing). At one point I called to ask for an update, spoke to a new person who decided it wouldn't be covered and closed my case, refusing to take it any further. Wild. Reviewed on: 2nd February 2024
