Nice perks and no problems

I've had a Platinum Cashback Credit Card for about 15 years and always pay it off every month. It's nice to get a small amount of cashback every year, although for the first few years I didn't because I hadn't spent enough on it. I've also got money off a couple of purchases in the Shop Small events. I've never had any problems and never had to contact customer services. The only drawback is that it isn't accepted everywhere. Mostly effortless

Easy to sign up and effortless to use. Authenticating can be a little clunky, so I tend not to use the app much, instead relying on Monzo. Reviewed on: 8th March 2024

Abysmal service

I opened a dispute claim for a product purchased with Amex on Ebay. Big mistake! They have been dragging this for weeks, they close the dispute without contacting me, send communication by mail without alerting me that takes avoer 7 working days to arrive. I talked to over 12 agents over the phone. Quite aside from the fact that each agent tells me a different thing, they are all unhelpful. They charged me back because Ebay told them I am still in possession of the item but both Ebay and Amex refuse to give me the seller;s name and adress so I can return the product via a tracked/signature on delivery option. I asked for my case to be escalated and I was told I will be contacted within 3-5 working days. I wasn't. Today I lodged a complaint and was told again I will be contacted within 3-5 working days. I won't hold my breath, but I can tell you that's the last time I'll use their card. I opted for them because I had their card in the US, but their UK brank is a total joke. Unrivalled in the UK!

AMEX is widely known in the UK as the card that doesn’t work across most of the country. However, with the increase in contactless POS providers (like Square etc) I use my AMEX as a true everyday spender. Platinum cash back is so so easy. It’s a small win every day, I use my AMEX with my partner on everything and make a flight to Australia as cash back each year. Of course, Amex also have a deal with Qantas for said flight… £200 off.
