First direct keep me informed without bombarding me relentlessly with emails and texts. They inform of product offerings, statements and interest rate changes in periodic and timely fashion. On the few occasions I need to call them on the phone their staff truly demonstrate why they have won so many customer service awards since 1989 Reviewed on: 26th February 2025

Really great bank!

I've had my account around two years now, and from signing up, everything was simple and easy. I had issues last year when the fraud department refused to pay me out after I had nearly £1500 stolen from my account, but after a complaint was put through, it was sorted out for me. I've opened backup accounts since then just in case I'm left short for money again, and I'm so unhappy with them, I've been moving all over the place. It makes me realise how good First Direct's interest rates are on accounts. They also just gave me a £1000 overdraft without a fuss and when I used it, I only paid 28p interest whereas other banks want to charge over £10 a month.. Great job First Direct! Didn't get as far as opening the account

For a bank that's supposed to be all about 'being modern' and prides itself on great customer service, I had a pretty useless time with First Direct. I tried to switch my current account over to the first account, but had to chase them up on it twice, and then they wanted me to verify my identity with a call to my place of work, and required a passport photo or similar signed by a doctor. I thought this was supposed to be the 21st century... If I can open an account with Atom etc. via an app, I'll be doing that instead. Thanks for nothing, FD! Reviewed on: 12th July 2016

First Direct were very helpful and easy to speak to during the switching process. The Welcome Bonus was indeed most welcome and the fee free overdraft of £250 is a great idea to smooth any bumps in the month's finances. Reviewed on: 22nd June 2016

They are easy to get through to by telephone, their security is upto date so you are covered but do not need to carry a pin machine with you to log on and are always helpful. Reviewed on: 20th June 2016
