Review of the Halifax, Fixed Rate Mortgage:

Extremely untrustworthy

1
Do not even apply for a mortgage with these extremely unprofessional individuals. Initially I was told that they would lend me £125,000 for the mortgage and gave an AIP. Next they said they'd only loan me £99,000 because I spent £3000 to book a holiday on my credit card (which is what sound minded people do for insurance). Next day they told me that they could loan me somewhere between £119,000 and £135,000 with the full and same details i gave them again. Two days later, after sending my application to an underwriter, they saidnthey could only lend me £113,000 and specifically stated that this as because I had booked my holiday in my credit card DESPITE me paying it off days later. Utterly vile individuals. How is that junk bank still in operation. Managed by idiots. Reviewed on: 14th September 2023

Taking out the mortgage

5
When I took out the mortgage, the advisor was very efficient and helpful. She checked all of the different rates out and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want. The whole process was easy. The offer changed because it took so long to buy the house (over 6 months) but that did not cause any problems and they did it over the phone without any hassle. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Easy to deal with

Halifax are so easy to deal with, when it comes to our fixed rate needing renewal it's simple, can do over the phone and with email. All the statements that we receive are easy to understand and use plain English. Reviewed on: 5th September 2016

Overall I found the process of taking out a mortgage with Halifax easy and reasonably stress free. Any queries I had throughout the process were dealt with quickly and professionally. I felt that I was kept informed during each step and any terms I did not fully understand were politely explained. Reviewed on: 30th August 2016

Wanted to find some information about the shared equity loan we hold on our house, extremely worried about what to do... assistant went through all options, reassured and changed our mortgage to a better monthly repayment. Very helpful unbiased view. Great service. Reviewed on: 30th June 2016

We got into some difficulties when my husband lost his job and were struggling to make our repayments. We contacted the Halifax who were lovely and arranged a loan to pay off the arrears and affordable smaller payments until we were back on our feet. They stopped sending out letters and phone calls and were very accommodating and understanding and in a situation like that, that's what you need. Reviewed on: 17th May 2016

Great easy experience buying our first home.

Really helpful mortgage advisor who went out of her way to find us a convenient appointment, went through everything clearly and then called us straight away when there was a slight problem, which wasn't one at all. All the paperwork was done and sent through to us well before we were ready to exchange and after so many horror stories, our mortgage was the least stressful part of buying our first home Reviewed on: 14th May 2016

Fab customer service - honest, reliable and straightforward

We wanted to look at whether or not we could save money by switching out mortgage to a fixed deal. I was in branch anyway to sort out a savings account for my baby, so asked the question. The member of staff was very helpful and told me I could look over the costings etc online which would save me and my partner coming into branch for a meeting of up to two hours. I did this when I got home, and had my new mortgage set up in next to no time in just a few clicks. Reviewed on: 19th February 2016
